Our School Holds a Symposium on English Graduates of Master’s Degree

   On March 19th , our school held the symposium of the 2016 English graduates of Master’s degree majoring in Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) in room 308 and room 506 of building NO.32 respectively. Liu Cheng, deputy dean of the School of International Education, Pang Yong, head of the English-based project of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, and Fang Yanqin, a teacher of the Office of Educational Affairs in the School of International Education, and Luo Shanke, a teacher of International Relations Office, and 58 graduates attended the symposium.

The main purpose of thissymposiumis to explain the procedures and precautions required for graduation to the new graduates. Through PPT presentations and explanations, students would be able to understand the requirements and precautions for graduation reply process, graduation photo shoot and receiving graduation certificate and degree certificate. And instructions for filling out the leaving school notice and the extension request form were also explained in detail.

Followed by a question and answer session, international students first affirmed the status quo of the school’s professional development and expressed their desire to stay at South China University of Technology for further study. International students have provided their own opinions on professional course setting, tutor guidance, teaching and experimental procedures, and asked teachers questions of concern. Some suggestions were made to the school regarding the addition of English version of the graduate student system website, GPA conversion of student transcripts, and elective tutors for electors of electrical and computer engineering. They were answered by the deputy director Liu Cheng. Deputy Dean Liu Cheng also stated that we will feedback student suggestions and opinions to other relevant departments of the school and give students a reply as soon as possible. The atmosphere of the exchange scene is harmonious.

Thesymposium provided more basis for exploring the cultivation of high-level professional foreign students in English, and provided new ideas for the better construction of majors in English in the next academic year. At the same time, through effective communication with students, the school also received some positive feedback which provided many useful experiences for how our school should cooperated with professional colleges to build high-level majors in English. Foreign students said that they fully understood the information they needed during the symposium which was helpful for them.
