Introduction

The School of Electronic and Information Engineering (SEIE), was established in January 2002,by merging the former Radio Department founded in 1952, the Institute of Radioand Automatic Control and the Center for Electrical and Electronic Teaching.

The research and teaching at SEIE encompasses a wide scope of technologiesincluding microelectronics, wireless communications and networking, signal andinformation, system and automation, biomedical electronics, photonics, computerengineering and IC design.

SEIE offers a stimulating environment for studyingelectronic and computer engineering. The school has amassed a talented group offaculties dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. The total number ofour permanent faculty, research staff, and administrative staff is 137. Amongthis group, there are 34 professors, 50 associate professors, and 97 holders ofdoctoral degrees.

We have equipped our laboratories and classrooms withstate-of-the-art facilities for research and multimedia teaching. Our goal isto prepare students to become capable engineers and future technology leadersin the ever-changing world of high technology. We offer a full range of coursesleading to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The college currently has 2first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points (Information andCommunication Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology), 1 professionaldoctoral degree authorization category (Electronic Information), 1 professionalmaster's degree authorization category (Electronic Information), 2 undergraduateprograms, and 2 postdoctoral research stations. The program of Communicationand Information System is the only state key discipline in the area ofcommunications and information in South China, one of the earliest disciplinesaccredited to grant doctoral degree, and in South China University of Technology one of the earliest key construction disciplines into which Chinamakes significant investment in the 21st century.

The college currently has 3national-level talent training bases, 1 national-level scientific researchbase, 7 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research bases, 2scientific research bases of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province,1 national-level experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 integratedcircuit training base co-constructed by the province and the city.
