Introduction:
Bin-Jie Hu, Professor & Ph.D, is the dean of Telecommunication Engineering Department of School of Electronic and Information Engineering, South China University of Technology. Professor Hu is also a Ph.D instructor. He is a selected evaluation expert for "863"Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, a selected evaluation expert for Science & Technology Awards by Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, a selected evaluation expert for projects supported by The Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (CSTIND), a selected reviewer for the projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Hu is a committee member of Electromagnetic Scattering Committee of China, a senior member of Chinese Institute of Electronic, a member of Antenna and Propagation Society and Microwave Theory and Techniques Society of IEEE. Prof. Hu’s work is embodied in 100 Excellent Science Achievements in China.
Prof. Hu worked for his master degree in China Research Institute of Radio Wave Propagation from 1988 to 1991. During this time, he worked on the Investigation of the EM Channel Characteristics for Measurement while Drilling (MWD) which is the 7th Five Years Key Programs for Science and Technology Development of China. He presented a new inhomogeneous transmission line model and finished the design and analysis of the drill rod antenna. He presented an electrode method for the channel. These works made the evaluation and prediction of EM MWD system possible, and they have been embodied in Electromagnetic Wave Propagation published in 1998 by Since Press. These works and following researches won the second prize of Science and Technology achievements of He’nan Province in 1999. Prof. Hu received his master degree in 1991 and he stayed in China Research Institute of Radio Wave Propagation to research on electromagnetic propagation. He received two times of first prize and two times of second prize of Science and Technology achievements awarded by China Research Institute of Radio Wave Propagation.
Prof. Hu worked for his doctor degree on electromagnetic field and microwave technologies in University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). He researched on plasma dielectric waveguide. He presented a categorizing method to analyze the modes of isotropic plasma waveguide and an efficient numerical method to analyze magnetized plasma dielectric waveguide. During his Ph. D candidate period, Prof. Hu published over 10 academic papers on several prestigious periodicals, including Science in China and J.Phys.D: Appl. Phys. Due to his academic contributions, Prof. Hu was invited to be a fellow of New York Academy of Sciences and a professional member ofScience. Prof. Hu won ’96-’97 excellent graduate student scholarship of UESTC and the special scholarship funded by TCL. Prof. Hu received his doctor degree half year before schedule.
Recommended by professor Lin Wei-Gan, Prof. Hu started to do his postdoctoral research work in South China University of Technology in 1997. He built the rigorous dispersion theory and mode categorization method for surface wave driven plasma antenna. Prof. Hu introduced Scattering Matrix Method (SMM) to analyze the transmission character of 1-D inhomogeneous plasma, and solved the key problem in analyzing and measuring of electron intensity in plasma antenna. His postdoctoral research project was funded by China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. This research project and other following works was nominated by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China for the second prize of National Science and Technology Achievement Award in China in 2005.
Prof. Hu was introduced as a talent into South China University of Technology. He was a associate research fellow at first and a associate professor later. Prof. Hu was promoted to be a full professor and Ph. D instructor in succession. Prof. Hu was a visiting research fellow in Wireless Communications Research Center, City University of Hong Kong from 2001 to 2002. Prof. Hu was a visiting professor in Université de Nantes, France in 2005. Currently, Prof. Hu is a reviewer of IEEE Trans Plasma Science, IEE Proc-H, Microw. Antennas Progagt and other journals.
Prof. Hu has been teaching and researching wireless communication and relating radio frequency theory and technologies. His current research interests are RFID and Wireless Sensing Network (WSN), multi-antenna and beam forming in MIMO system, novel integrate-able and reconfigurable antenna techniques, modeling and coding of wireless communication channel, digital signal processing (DSP) and linearization of RF devices, ultra-wide-band (UWB) communication and wide-band accessing techniques. Prof. Hu has published over 150 academic papers on various prestigious journals, including IEEE transactions, IEEE letters, IEE transactions, Electronic letters, and Science in China. Over 40 of these papers are published on SCI indexed journals or conference proceedings. Prof. Hu has received two second prizes and one third prize of science and technology achievement of provincial or ministry level, applied over 20 invention and practical model patents, and has been granted 10 patents.
