1. Introduction to the University

The South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a leading higher education institution in China. The university encompasses three campuses: Wushan Campus, University Town Campus, and Guangzhou International Campus. SCUT has a long history dating back to 1918. Formally founded in 1952, SCUT was one of the four major universities of technology in the new China. In 1960, it became a National Key University. In 1995, SCUT was listed in China's Project 211, a national endeavor aiming at strengthening top institutions of higher education as a priority for the 21st century. In 2001, SCUT was listed in the Project 985, which at the time was the country's most significant education project for funding world-class universities. In 2020, it was ranked in the top 200 of the World University Academic Ranking by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

Today, SCUT has developed into a comprehensive research university with strengths in engineering, the integration of science, engineering, medicine, management, economics, humanities, and law. Its overall disciplinary level, comprising light industry technology and engineering, architecture, food science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, environmental science and engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and management science and engineering, ranks in the top 10% nationwide. In addition, According to Clarivate Analytics's Essential Science Indicators, SCUT has 10 subject areas ranked within the global top 1%, among which 5 subjects are global top 1‰ encompassing engineering, materials science, chemistry, agricultural science, and computer science. SCUT 's postgraduate conditions are excellent, with a favorable teaching environment and rigorous scholarship. It currently has 34 postdoctoral mobile stations that cover all doctoral degree-granting disciplines.

With the construction of Double First-class and Guangzhou International Campus as the dual engines, it will deepen the construction of an academic, open, well-governed, happy, and beautiful SCUT, and advance fearlessly towards the goal of being a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

2. Introduction to the Department

The Department of Electronic Business at SCUT is situated in the University Town Campus. The Department of Electronic Business comprises a faculty team of 45 members, consisting of 33 full-time teachers, including 11 professors, 12 doctoral supervisors, 15 associate professors, and 26 master’s supervisors, along with 1 postdoctoral researcher, as well as 12 administrative and laboratory management personnel. All full-time teachers possess doctoral degrees from prestigious domestic or international institutions. Moreover, the majority of them have acquired experience studying or conducting research abroad.

The Department of Electronic Business offers a comprehensive talent-training system that spans from undergraduate to doctoral levels, incorporating a post-doctoral research station in Management Science and Engineering. Currently, the department is developing two specialty directions, Electronic Business and Logistics Management, under the authorization of the first-level discipline for doctoral degrees in Management Science and Engineering. There are two M.Sc programs in Electronic Business and Logistics Engineering, one M.Eng program in Logistics Engineering and Management, as well as a non-full time master program in Digital Commerce and Smart Supply Chain (Master of Engineering Management, MEM). The department provides three undergraduate programs, including Electronic Business (Bachelor of Management), Logistics Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering), and Big Data Management and Applications (Bachelor of Management), where the first two are designated as national first-class undergraduate programs.

In the fourth national discipline assessment, Management Science and Engineering received an A- grade, placing it in the top 5%-10% nationwide. The 2022 Chinese Universities Subjects Ranking provided by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy classifies the Electronic Business and Logistics Engineering undergraduate programs into the A- and A+ categories, placing them 13th and 2nd in the country, respectively.

The current student enrollment totals 898, comprising 27 doctoral students, 333 master’s students, and 538 undergraduate students, with 30 of them being international.

With its long-standing presence, the Department of Electronic Business has established a solid reputation within its field. The department boasts a highly qualified faculty, advanced research capabilities, effective student training, and a significant societal impact. The department’s disciplinary framework centers on big data management and application, with a particular emphasis on addressing societal needs and emphasizing engineering fundamentals, such as computer technology and data analysis acumen. Moreover, it prioritizes the cultivation of students’ skills in business intelligence, digital commerce, intelligent logistics, and smart supply chain to produce adaptable and innovative graduates with a solid theoretical foundation and professional expertise in computer application technology, big data management and application, and business operation management, along with strong social and adaptive capabilities.

3. Cooperate Supervisors (in Order of Stroke Count of Surnames)Heyong Wang

Prof. Wang is a Ph.D. supervisor. Currently, he holds the position of a visiting scholar at the University of Miami in the United States, and serves as the director of the Big Data and Business Intelligence Research Center. Additionally, Prof. Wang is the Deputy Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Electronic Business majors in Guangdong universities, and serves as an expert reviewer for national natural science funds, national social science funds, and various provincial government departments, including the Bureau of Political Science and Technology, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Industry and Information Technology. He has led several projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, the National Social Science Late-stage Support Program, as well as key projects and general projects at the provincial and ministerial levels. He has published over 80 academic papers in prestigious national and international journals, including “Journal of Computer Research and Development,” “Applied Soft Computing,” “Information Process & Management,” “Knowledge and Information Systems,” “Information Technology & Management,” and “Electronic Commerce Research and Applications.” Additionally, he holds 8 software copyrights and has authored 2 books.

Wenming Zuo

Prof. Zuo is a Ph.D. supervisor. He serves as the Director of the Guangzhou Research Center for Digital Commerce and Intelligent Supply Chain, a Standing Committee Member of the China Optimal Law Coordination Committee for Computer Simulation, and the Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Ergonomics and Human Factors Application Standardization Working Group. In addition, he is a Member of the Guangdong Provincial Electronic Business Professional Standardization Technical Committee and a Senior Member of the China Computer Society. He also holds the Consultation Expert position for various departments including the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Business, and Department of Industry and Information Technology. He serves as a committee member in several expert committees, such as the Expert Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Electronic Business Association, Expert Committee of the Guangdong Rural Electronic Business Association, and Expert Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Network Economy Research Association.

Prof. Zuo’s research areas include Data Science and Business Intelligence, Digital Commerce, Digital Economy, Service Science, and Consumer Behavior. He has presided over 30 national, provincial, and ministerial projects, including two projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, research projects from the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, and the first batch of new liberal arts research and reform practice projects by the Ministry of Education. He has also participated in four major projects and general projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. He has published over 80 papers in both domestic and foreign academic journals, such as the Nankai Management Review, Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, Chinese Journal of Management Science, Management Review, Journal of Management, Economic Management, Case Studies and Reviews in Management, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, and Technology in Society. His papers have been cited more than 380 times. Furthermore, he has authored seven monographs/textbooks, including one national-level high-quality textbook for general higher education, and obtained three software copyrights.

Lipan Feng

Prof. Feng is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor. His research areas include Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Research on the Intersection of Operations and Marketing, and Platform Operations Management. Prof. Feng has served as the principal investigator for one project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has been involved in seven key research projects, all of which were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His research achievements have been published in renowned international journals such as DS, EJOR, IJPE, IJPR, and TRE. He has received several awards, notably including the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award from Tianjin Municipality in 2022, the Best Paper Award from EJOR in 2020, the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award from Nankai University in 2020, and the Outstanding Reviewer Award from JCP in 2018 and EJOR in 2017.

Bin Gu

Prof. Gu is a Ph.D. Supervisor and leads an academic team specializing in Electronic Business and innovation management. Prof. Gu’s expertise is evident in his involvement in significant research projects, notably the “Research on Promoting the Construction of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind through Science and Technology Innovation by 2035, a key topic in the 2021-2035 National Medium-and Long-term Science and Technology Development Plan, in which he holds the position of chief expert. Furthermore, he is a member of the China Association of Soft Science Research, an expert at Xinhua News Agency’s high-end think tank (Outlook Consultancy), and a reviewer for esteemed international and domestic academic journals. His research interests include digital economy, innovation management, digital government, high-tech industry management, strategic management, blockchain, and cross-border e-commerce. He has led various national major science and technology projects, sub-projects of major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, projects funded by the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Program, and major decision-making consultation research projects in Guangdong Province. His scholarly contributions are reflected in his publications in reputable academic journals, including “Chinese Public Administration” and Research Management,” many of which are indexed by CSSCI or the major indexing databases.

Zhiyong Zhang

Prof. Zhang is a Ph.D. supervisor and holds key positions such as the Secretary-General of the Research Center for South China’s Transportation and Logistics Development, Vice Chairman and Deputy Secretary-General of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Logistics Management and Engineering Programs at Guangdong Universities, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Logistics and Supply Chain, Honorary Consultant of the Guangdong Port Association, Executive Director of Guangdong Logistics and Supply Chain Society, member of the Guangdong Logistics Standardization Committee, expert of the Guangzhou Logistics and Supply Chain Association, and expert for consequential administrative decision-making in Guangzhou (2015-2020). Prof. Zhang’s research focuses on regional logistics and economy, digital supply chain, and big data optimization. He has led over 20 national social science fund projects and other research initiatives, and contributed to the development of 5 local standards. In the past five years, he has authored over 40 papers in esteemed international journals such as the International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Journal of Advanced Management Science, Journal of Management Sciences in China, Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, and Journal of Control and Decision-making.

Jian Zhang

Prof. Zhang is an associate professor and Ph.D. supervisor. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Burgundy-Franche-Comté in France and completed his postdoctoral research at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Prof. Zhang is a member of the European Operational Research Society (EURO) and the French Society of Operational Research (ROADEF). He serves as a reviewer for various international SCI journals. His research interests include operations research, vehicle routing problems, approximate dynamic programming, reinforcement learning, column generation algorithms, and branch-and-cut-and-price algorithms.

In the past five years, Dr. Zhang has published over 10 papers in international SCI journals such as the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Production Economics, Computers & Operations Research, and Computers & Industrial Engineering.

Lei Yang

Prof. Yangis a Ph.D. supervisor. He serves as the Vice Director of the Guangzhou Research Center for Digital Business and Smart Supply Chain. Additionally, he is a Member of the China Operations Research Society and holds key positions as Executive Director of the Committee of Stochastic Services and Operations Management, Member of the China Society of Management Science and Engineering, Executive Director of the Committee of Supply Chain and Operations Management, Vice Chairman of the Logistics Engineering Branch of the Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society, and Executive Director of the Guangdong Logistics and Supply Chain Society.

Prof. Yang’s research interests include intelligent logistics and smart supply chain management, internet finance, digital operations management, and big data optimization. He has overseen 6 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and participated in over 20 other provincial and ministerial projects. Notably, he has published more than 80 papers in esteemed journals such as Production and Operations Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research Part E, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Journal of Management Sciences in China, Journal of Systems Engineering Theory and Practice, Chinese Journal of Management Science, and Journal of Systems Management.

Huiling Zhong

Prof. Zhong is a Ph.D. Supervisor, leading the Intelligent Logistics Theory and Application Research Team at the distinguished Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has also held positions as a Senior Research Scholar at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin.

Prof. Zhong’s research interests encompass the fields of Intelligent Logistics Theory, Complex Logistics System Modeling, and their practical application in various domains such as Dangerous Goods Logistics, Port Logistics, Fresh Food Logistics, Electricity Logistics, and Low-Carbon Logistics.

Prof. Zhong has successfully secured funding for and managed two projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation, six projects funded by the Ministry of Education, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Commission, as well as many other projects at provincial and ministerial levels.

In addition, she has obtained four software copyrights and two patents. Her research findings have been published in over 50 prestigious journals and international conferences, including Transportation Research Part E, Systems Engineering Theory and Practice, Journal of Cleaner Production, Transportation Research Part D, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Policy and Management, Ocean and Coastal Management, Habitat International.

Zhiheng Zhong

Prof. Zhong is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. supervisor. His research interests include Queueing Theory, Game Theory, and Supply Chain Management. He has published two papers in the European Journal of Operational Research and is the Principal Investigator of a provincial-level Natural Science Foundation project.

Jianxiong Huang

Prof.Huang is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. supervisor with research interests in online reputation, social media, e-commerce, the sharing economy, and consumer decision-making and behavior. She has published papers in esteemed international journals like JMIS, JCP, and JASIST, and contributes as a reviewer and associate editor for various journals or conferences.

3. Job Requirements

(1) Candidates must adhere to all laws and regulations, maintain a record free of disciplinary violations, possess a strong dedication to higher education, exhibit good physical and mental health, demonstrate outstanding personal qualities and professional ethics, and generally be below the age of 35.

(2) Applicants must hold a doctoral degree obtained within the last 3 years, or be a recent PhD graduate who has successfully defended their doctoral dissertation.

4. Salary and Benefits

(1) Competitive salary in accordance with the university’s staff standards at the same level, along with social insurance and housing provident fund contributions, and access to free medical treatment.

(2) Encouragement to apply for various national and Guangdong provincial scientific research projects and talent programs, with those who are awarded projects receiving better treatment during the project period.

(5) Eligibility to apply for the position of associate research fellow in postdoctoral research is depended on completing 18 months at the station or within 1 year after departure.

(6) Upon leaving the station, individuals have the option to apply for teaching and research series positions or full-time research series positions within the university through the “pre-employment-long-term employment system”.
