The program aims to cultivate talents who understand the basic theories of management, are familiar with the techniques and methods of big data management, can utilize knowledge of mathematics, data science, computer science, and management for quantitative analysis of business data, comprehend both business management and big data analysis, and can make intelligent business decisions.

The program comprises 12 core courses, including Statistics, Management, Python Data Analysis, Principles and Applications of Databases, Operational Research, Data Mining, Decision Theory and Methods, Multivariate Statistical Analysis, Optimization Theory and Application, Data Management and Governance, Digital Operations, and Case Studies of Big Data.
The courses aim to provide students with a strong foundation in computer and big data technologies, as well as to enhance their competencies in big data management, business analysis, internet marketing, IoT, smart logistics, and intelligent supply chain management, among others.

Currently, the department is establishing the first-level discipline for doctoral degrees in Management Science and Engineering. There are two specialty direction areas, Electronic Business and Logistics Engineering, having developed the full-time academic and professional master's degree programs, and also having provided a non-full time master's degree in Digital Commerce and Smart Supply Chain (Master of Engineering Management, MEM). The department has developed bachelor's degree programs in Both Electronic Business and Logistics Engineering programs are amongst the National First-Class Undergraduate Specialty Construction Projects.
The department provides three undergraduate programs, including Electronic Business (Management Science), Logistics Engineering (Engineering Science), and Big Data Management and Application (Management Science). The latter two are designated as national first-class undergraduate program establishments.
In the fourth national discipline assessment, Management Science and Engineering received an A- grade, placing it in the top 5%-10% nationwide. The 2022 Soft Science China University Major Ranking indicates that the Electronic Business and Logistics Engineering undergraduate programs are classified as A- category and A+ category majors, placing them 13th and 2nd in the country, respectively.

Moreover, it has established prominent research institutions, namely, Institute of Digital Business & Intelligent Logistics, a national-level comprehensive Humanities experiment teaching center, and the Guangzhou Digital Commerce & Smart Supply Chain Research Base.
