“A New Chapter in the Data Era, Winning the Future with Intelligence” - Hosting successfully the Third Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data

  On September 23, 2023, the third Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data was held at the Concert Hall of the University Town Campus of The South China University of Technology (SCUT). The forum, organized by the Department of Electronic Business at SCUT, brought together experts, scholars, corporate representatives, and alumni from the fields of AI and big data in and outside the Greater Bay Area to explore cutting-edge technologies and future trends in the digital era.



  Leading industry experts were invited to share their pioneering results and practical experiences in the field of AI and big data. This included a senior expert from Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, who shared unique technical insights, revealing Huawei’s frontier research in the field of big data. Moreover, ShiZe Cai, the director of Big Data at SF Tech, provided detailed insight into “SF Big Data,” sharing SF Tech’s forward-looking layout and full-link intelligent upgrade strategy in the digital supply chain, shedding light on the modern logistics industry. In addition, Hu Jianyang, the Dean of the Education Research Institute at the Greater Bay Education Technology Group, addressed the digital transformation of Chinese language education in his presentation on the topic “Book + Network: Extracurricular Reading Course Project for Chinese Language”. During the discussion, he offered practical solutions for enhancing the quality of education.



  From a data compliance perspective, HongXia Bao, Business Director of PwC, offered scientific data compliance communication solutions for enterprises by addressing business management challenges in the digital age. Dr. Xin Huang, Chairman of Guangzhou WENTU Information Technology Co., Ltd, presented digital solutions for teaching content and modes in tourism management, offering new ideas for the digital transformation of the tourism industry., General Manager of AIGC (Guangzhou) Printing Technology Co., Ltd, shared AIGC’s impact and application in the digital business field, providing a reference for digital transformation in the business world.



  In addition, appointments of mentors were made at the forum. These off-campus tutors, including ShiZe Cai, HongXia Bao, Dr. Xin Huang, Jun Cai, FangLong Wang, and ShiJie Feng, were designated to provide insights for the school’s development and promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the university and enterprises.



  With the booming development of the big data industry, SCUT has formed close cooperative relationships with many enterprises. To better support businesses in various aspects, such as campus recruitment and school-enterprise cooperation, a launching ceremony of the South China Region Big Data Enterprise Alliance was held at the forum. The founding members of the alliance are a large group of businesses engaged in big data, such as She-in International company, Guangdong Provincial Telecommunication Planning and Designing Institute, Guangdong Province Electronic Business Association, Guangzhou City Digital Financial Association, SF Tech, Communications Bank of Guangdong, PwC, FWD Insurance, Guangdong Province Wu Xiaolan Charitable Foundation, Guangzhou Fong Data Technology Consulting Co., Ltd., SequoiaDB, Guangzhou WENTU Information Technology Co., Ltd., and HuaKang Group.



  As part of the effort to cultivate students’ spirit of innovation and teamwork, a kickoff ceremony for a big data application hackathon was specially held at the forum. The event aims to provide a practical platform for students to exercise their innovative capabilities and cultivate outstanding talent for the future big data application field.



  The hosting of this forum provides a platform for companies and schools to exchange ideas and collaboration, and it also sets direction for skill enhancement for current students. With concerted efforts from schools and businesses, the major of Big Data Management and Application is expected to pioneer a new chapter in nurturing talents in the digital era, making significant contributions to the industrial upgrade and societal development of the Greater Bay Area.
