On June 29th, the grand presentation ceremony for the “Wu Xiaolan Highest Honors Degree Award” of 2023 took place at the Renhouli, SCUT. Distinguished guests included Gaowa Bao, the Chairman of the Wu Xiaolan Charity Foundation in Guangdong Province; Jun Chen and Dingjie Wu, the Vice-Chairpersons; Zhongming Lai,the Deputy Secretary-General; Zhiwen Situ, the Honorary Secretary-General, and invited Guests including Dongmei Wang, the Vice President of Guangzhou Greater Bay Education Technology Group, Miaoxian Wu, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electronic Business, Kaipin Liu, Deputy Secretary, Lei Yang, Vice Dean,and others.
The award, established by Guangdong’s Wu Xiaolan Charity Foundation, aims to recognize outstanding graduates of the Department of Electronic Business, inspiring students to strive constantly and challenge themselves. Following individual application, class recommendation, selection by the department’s academic committee, degree appraisal subcommittee, and undergraduate teaching guidance standing committee, together with an ethics committee evaluation by the Foundation, the “Wu Xiaolan Highest Honors Degree Award” 2023 was granted to 10 awardees from the department’s nearly 200 graduates.
Upon the commendation, Ms. Wu personally inscribed the award, congratulating the awardees, acknowledging their excellent performance during their university years, and encouraging them to continue reaching new academic and personal heights. Mr. Chen, the Vice Chairperson of the Foundation and Chairman of the Greater Bay Education Technology Group, publicly announced the award recipients, extending his congratulations and expectations. Subsequently, each student who received the “Wu Xiaolan Highest Honors Degree Award” took the stage. Honorary certificates and checks were presented by department representatives and the Wu Xiaolan Charity Foundation. Furthermore, to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, the Foundation introduced the “Wu Xiaolan Education Award”, with nominees and winners proposed by awardees and administration committees. The winning students expressed their deep appreciation to the teachers who had significantly supported them in their academic journey, sharing the honor and joy collectively. The department leadership and Wu Xiaolan Charity Foundation representatives then presented awards to the honored teachers.
The awarded undergraduate student, Xiangjun Lai, achieved the title of “Top Ten Three Good Student Models” at SCUT for the academic year 2021-2022. She received scholarships for three consecutive years due to her outstanding examination results, published 2 EI papers as the primary author, and will pursue a Master’s degree at Zhejiang University based on her exceptional academic achievements. She also serves as the school’s debate team captain and has actively participated in various international Chinese debate contests, where she has achieved several championships and earned the title of “Best Debater”. Following the award, Xiangjun Lai expressed, “Regardless of the direction of one’s aspirations, forge ahead. I hope this saying can inspire future generations of SCUT students to summon the courage to reach new heights!”
The awarded postgraduate student, Xu Chen, in addition to serving as class monitor and deputy secretary of the party branch, has published 8 SCI/EI papers, 4 of which as the first author. She has also received the national scholarship and multiple innovation and entrepreneurship competition awards. Following the award, she stated, “This honor affirms and motivates me, serving as a spur. Receiving the Wu Xiaolan Highest Honors Degree Award would not have been possible without the 10 years of nurturing from the Department of Electronic Business and the help and support of my classmates. In the future, I will continue to strive, being careful in every matter from start to finish, cherishing our prime years and never letting our era down!”
The “Wu Xiaolan Highest Honors Degree Award” has garnered attention from the education and industrial sectors. Its unwavering pursuit of excellence continually inspires current Department of Electronic Business students to boldly advance and progress in their life journey.
