On August 18, 2026, the 9th National Internet + Chemical Reaction Engineering Course Model Design Competition concluded successfully at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology.

Hosted by the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China and undertaken by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, the competition received special support from Kingfa Science and Technology Co., Ltd. Officially launched on May 1, 2026, it attracted 585 teams from 91 universities nationwide. Experts in the Chemical Reaction Engineering course from universities across China conducted preliminary evaluation, final review and joint assessment based on indicators including the scientificity and innovation of work topics and content quality. A total of 136 outstanding works were selected, including 24 first prizes, 45 second prizes and 67 third prizes, alongside 6 excellent cases and 6 best animations. Eight institutions including East China University of Science and Technology, South China University of Technology and China University of Petroleum (Beijing) were awarded the Best Organization Units. Nine teachers including Cao Yonghai, Zhou Xinggui and Ding Jie were honored as Excellent Instructors.

Fang Xiangchen, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, Professor Li Yingwei, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, Wang Yanan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of SCUT, Professor Liang Bin, former Vice President of Sichuan University and former Deputy Director of the National Teaching Steering Committee for Chemical Engineering, together with competition judges, supervising teachers and student awardees, over 80 representatives in total, attended the closing and award ceremony. The event was presided over by Huang Guoqing, Party Secretary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology.

In his address, Secretary-General Fang Xiangchen stated that the National Internet + Chemical Reaction Engineering Course Model Design Competition aims to promote the construction of Emerging Engineering Education and the teaching reform of core courses for chemical engineering majors in universities, deepen students’ understanding of basic concepts, principles and methodologies of chemical reaction engineering, and strengthen engineering thinking, practical capabilities and innovation awareness. He affirmed the competition’s contributions to developing digital curriculum resources, talent training and industry-education connection, and noted that the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China will continue supporting the competition to boost chemical engineering education and the growth of young talents.

Dean Li Yingwei delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. He expressed that the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at SCUT hopes to build a communication platform for teachers and students nationwide through this competition, facilitate sharing of teaching experience and innovation in curriculum reform, and further improve the quality of talent training for chemical engineering majors.

Professor Liang Bin presented a report reviewing and prospecting the Internet + Chemical Reaction Engineering Course Model Design Competition. He recounted the competition’s development since its founding in 2016, pointing out that the event has gradually evolved from a simple course model exhibition into an innovation platform integrating curriculum teaching, engineering practice and digital technologies. He emphasized that tools such as AI and numerical simulation should serve the teaching of fundamental principles of reaction engineering and the cultivation of engineering thinking. In the future, more efforts should be made to develop high-quality digital teaching resources, promote integration of industry and education, and apply intelligent technologies, so as to continuously advance curriculum reform and talent training for Chemical Reaction Engineering.

Director Jiao Jian from Kingfa Science and Technology delivered a speech on behalf of the supporting organization. He remarked that chemical reaction engineering bridges classroom theories and industrial practice. Through the Internet + approach, the competition promotes the integration of curriculum knowledge and engineering applications, serving as a vital platform for cultivating high-quality chemical engineering talents. Corporate development relies on the support of university talent training and disciplinary construction. He expected further integration of industry and education as well as collaborative talent cultivation to jointly advance the training of engineering talents and industrial innovation.

Professor Nie Yong gave professional comments on the scientificity, innovation, teaching value and engineering application characteristics of the awarded works. Some outstanding entries of this competition focused on reactor design optimization, complex reaction kinetic modeling, intensification of multiphase reaction processes, and AI-assisted teaching. These works reflect the integrated development trend of engineering thinking, innovation capacity and digital literacy in the training of chemical engineering talents in the new era.

Director Ye Hao from the Chemical Talent Exchange & Employment Service Center of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and member of the National Teaching Steering Committee for Chemical Engineering Programs in Higher Education delivered a special report titled Anchoring the 15th Five-Year Plan to Jointly Cultivate Industrial Talents — Reflections on Talent Cultivation in Higher Education amid Petrochemical Industry Transformation. He shared insights covering the development trend of the petrochemical industry, demands of industrial transformation and pathways for university talent training.

With this, the award ceremony of the 9th National Internet + Chemical Reaction Engineering Course Model Design Competition came to a successful end. At present, the petrochemical industry is advancing toward high-end, green and intelligent development, which sets higher requirements for interdisciplinary talents equipped with engineering practical competence, innovation capability and digital literacy. Closely aligned with disciplinary progress and industrial demands, this competition promotes teaching innovation and reinforces engineering practice, playing a positive role in fostering high-level chemical engineering talents. Moving forward, the competition will continue to leverage its platform function, push forward curriculum reform and digital teaching resource development for Chemical Reaction Engineering, boost collaborative development among universities, enterprises and industries, and contribute to the high-quality development of chemical engineering education and the cultivation of innovative engineering talents in China.
