To all faculty and students:
Launched in September 2026, the SubForum of the “Overseas Excellent Young Researchers Forum” hosted by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, aims to invite young talents with diverse academic backgrounds worldwide to discuss and exchange ideas on cuttingedge international scientific frontiers, hot research topics, and technical challenges faced by industries. Serving as a communication platform, this forum enables mutual inspiration, broadens academic horizons, fosters international academic exchanges and collaborations, and promotes the joint development of all participants.

Biographies of Speakers
Dr. Qianfeng
Dr. Qianfeng Gu received his B.Eng. in Polymer Materials and Engineering at Anhui University of Technology in 2013 and obtained Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from City University of Hong Kong in 2025. From 2025.08 to present, he is a postdoctoral researcher at City University of Hong Kong. He focuses on the research of functional organic materials, with special emphasis on functional covalent organic framework (COF) materials, energy catalysis and optoelectronic devices. He has published more than 50 SCIindexed papers, among which 10 are firstauthor papers published in top journals including JACS, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials and Joule. He was selected to attend the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and received the Outstanding Academic Performance Award of City University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Shijie Liu
Dr. Shijie Liu received his B.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2021 and 2026, respectively. From 2026.04 to present, he is a postdoctoral researcher at SintonLab, University of Toronto. His research interests are electrochemical systems development for carbon dioxide capture and the extraction and recycling of precious metals. He has published 26 SCI papers (first author: 6). His work on carbon dioxide capture has been recognized with the XPRIZE Carbon Removal Student Award and the Carbon Future Young Researcher Honor Award.
Dr. Qi Xiong
Dr. Qi Xiong received his B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from Jiangxi Normal University in 2016 and his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Jilin University in 2022. Since September 2022, he has conducted postdoctoral research at City University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on the performance and mechanisms of electrolytes for lithium batteries, with particular emphasis on ultrahighvoltage lithium cobalt oxide batteries and lithium–air batteries. He has published nine SCIindexed papers as first author or corresponding author, including six firstauthor papers in Science Advances, Nature Communications, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, and Advanced Materials. His doctoral research was recognized with the 2022 Jingbo Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Materials by the Chinese Chemical Society.
