Biography:

  Bin Liu received his Bachelor of Engineering (1st Class Honours) and Master of Engineering degrees from the National University of Singapore in 2002 and 2004, respectively, and completed his doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota, USA, in 2011. After one‑year appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, he joined the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor in June 2012 and was promoted to Associate Professor in March 2017. In February 2023, Professor Liu joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at City University of Hong Kong as a Global STEM Professor, and was promoted to Chair Professor of Electrocatalysis on July 1st, 2026. His research focuses on photo(electro)catalysis and in‑situ/operando characterization.

  Professor Liu received the Emerging Investigator Award from Journal of Materials Chemistry A, Royal Society of Chemistry in 2016, and was named among the Class of Influential Researchers by Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, American Chemical Society in 2018. He has been listed in Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers (Cross‑Field, 2019; Chemistry, 2020‑2025). He has published more than 300 research articles in high‑profile journals including Nature, Science, Nature Chemistry, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Catalysis, Nature Energy, Nature Sustainability, Nature Water, Nature Chemical Engineering, Nature Reviews Chemistry, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Chemical Reviews, Chemical Society Reviews, Joule, Chem, PNAS, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Materials, and Energy & Environmental Science.
