Hu Wenhao is currently Professor and Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, leader of the Guangdong “Pearl River Talent Plan” Innovation & Entrepreneurship Team, Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory for Anti-infective Drug Research (since 2023), Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Chiral Molecule and Drug Discovery (since 2019), member of the 8th Pharmacy Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and Vice-President of the Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association.
His research focuses on novel multicomponent reactions, efficient construction of structurally diverse chiral molecules, and the discovery of chiral anti-infective and anti-tumor drugs. He received the First-Class Prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award (2016) and the Second-Class Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2010). To date he has published 320 papers in journals such as Nat. Chem., Nat. Commun., Sci. Adv., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and J. Med. Chem., and holds 128 authorized invention patents.
