Abstract:
Ion-exchange membranes and related processes play a crucial role in multiple industrial sectors,including seawater desalination,resource recovery,energy storage,electrochemical synthesis of green chemicals,and carbon dioxide transformation.Inspired by ion channels in biological systems,significant breakthroughs have been made in precision membrane design in recent years,leveraging advanced functional materials to push the frontiers of efficient ion transport.These innovations include precise control of pore geometry,surface chemistry,and charge characteristics,offering promising solutions for efficient ion separation.This presentation will showcase typical examples of advanced membrane design and processes,and explore strategies for enhancing the selectivity,efficiency,and scalability of membrane technologies to address major global sustainability challenges.
Speaker Profile:
Professor Zhang Xi Wang is currently the Dow Chair Professor at The University of Queensland,Director of the UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation,and Director of the Australian Research Centre for Green Electrified Carbon Transformation(GETCO₂).He previously served as the founding director of the Australian Industrial Transformation Research Centre for Energy-Efficient Separations(EESep).Professor Zhang's research focuses on membrane technology and advanced oxidation processes,with significant achievements in energy-efficient separations,resource recovery,green chemical synthesis,carbon dioxide transformation,and renewable energy production.He has published over 230 peer-reviewed journal articles,with over 25,000 citations on Google Scholar and an h-index of 89.He was named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in both 2023 and 2024,and was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering(ATSE)in 2024.
