The 2020 Dow Chemical "Leadership and Career Development Course" successfully held
From November 27 to December 17, the 2020 Dow Chemical "Leadership and Career Development Course", jointly held by Dow Chemical and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of South China University of Technology, was successfully held. The school Party Deputy Secretary Cai Gang Liu attended and delivered a speech. Yunsheng Zeng, former Commercial Director, North Asia, Chemical Energy and Microbial Control Technologies of Dow Chemical, Visiting Professor, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, and Qiuye Huang, Marketing Manager, Asia Pacific, Dow Adhesives Division, Marketing Manager, Global Packaging Composite Adhesives, Dow, General Manager, GuangZhou, Dow, also attended. The course includes four sessions of thematic forums: Past, Present and Tomorrow in the Chemical Industry; Leadership and Career Planning Course; Job Shadow Day; and Job to Job Competition.

On the 27th November, the first session of the course began with a forum salon entitled "Past, Present and Tomorrow in the Chemical Industry". School Deputy Secretary Caigang Liu first delivered a speech. He thanked Dow Chemical for its strong support for the talent training of our institute over the past 12 years, and also encouraged students to actively participate to better understand foreign companies and the chemical industry, and gained experience, happiness and harvest in the process.Mr. Zeng shared the story of his work and entrepreneurship, focusing on the wonderful story of accumulating resources and experience in the early stage, knowing and understanding the industry through the company's platform, finding a suitable direction for him, and finally starting a business. Starting from the difficulties and highlights in the past, Mr. Huang encouraged students to keep working, and hard work would always pay off. Yijie Liu, Asia Pacific Marketing Manager of Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics (Food and Specialty Packaging), introduced his experience in the chemical industry and encouraged everyone to try hard and find the industry they love. From the perspective of professional HR, Qinghua Chen, a partner of Dow Chemical's human resources business, introduced why she chose the position of HR, and told students how to train themselves and deal with future employment with the experience of a senior HR.
Then the host took the questions of students to the guests. Together with an in-depth understanding of the background of the chemical industry, the guests' career development history and industry development prospects, students actively interacted with the guests and enthusiastically put forward their own concerns. For the questions, the guests made detailed answers combining with their own experiences.

On the 3rd December, the second phase of the Dow event: leadership and career planning course was held.Yunsheng Zeng, Qiuye Huang, and Qinghua Chen respectively introduced and supplemented the meaning of leadership representative for students based on their own professional experience, and at the same time instructed students how to make career planning according to their actual situations.

On the 10th December, at the Dow Chemical (Guangzhou) office in Guangzhou International Financial Center, the third session of the leadership and career development series: Job Shadow day was launched.The ice-breaking game was played in small groups, so that the members in the group had a certain understanding of each other. Then the tutors from various positions of Dow Chemical introduced themselves in turn. After each group was matched with their favorite tutor, they started the apprenticeship journey.
The tutors introduced the office environment in details, and led the students to gain an in-depth understanding of the daily working environment and atmosphere. After the visit, everyone sat down to share their experience of the visit, and discussed the aspects of student thinking VS work thinking, responsibility awareness, etc.After communicating with the tutor, everyone expressed their opinions. Each group sent representatives to summarize and present the results of the discussions in the group.

On the 17th December, the fourth phase of Dow Chemical activity: Job-to-job competition was successfully held in the conference room on the fourth floor of Shaw Engineering Building in School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.Before the start of the competition, School Deputy Secretary Caigang Liu presented Mr. Qiuye Huang the appointment of "Off-campus Career Planning Instructor of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of South China University of Technology".

In the personal presentation session of the competition, students tried their best to show themselves to the judges, with oral English expression skills and stable stage performance.In the followed group session, students actively discussed and expressed their opinions, and finally reached an agreement and made a summary presentation in English.After evaluation by the guests on each person's performance, the first, second and third prizes of this competition were finally decided. The first prize, Shuan Zhang, won the Dow Chemical internship offer, and the second prize, Shushan Li and Linyong Zhou, won the exemption.Resume screening directly enters the re-examination qualification.
