The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Green Chemical ProductTechnology was approved for establishment by the Guangdong ProvincialDepartment of Science and Technology in September 2004. In the same year, itreceived joint support from the Guangzhou Municipal Science and TechnologyBureau. The laboratory is affiliated with the School of Chemistry and ChemicalEngineering at South China University of Technology, relying on the doctoralprogram in first-level discipline “Chemical Engineering and Technology,” thenational key discipline of Chemical Engineering, the postdoctoral researchstation, and Guangdong provincial key disciplines. In December 2007, thelaboratory passed the acceptance review organized jointly by the GuangdongProvincial Department of Science and Technology and the Guangzhou MunicipalScience and Technology Bureau. It received “Excellent” ratings in theprovincial key laboratory evaluations organized by the Guangdong ProvincialDepartment of Science and Technology in 2012 and 2017, and was rated “Good” in2019.
The laboratory has established eight research teams: Chemical ProcessSystems Engineering and Product Engineering, Adsorption and Reaction SeparationEngineering, Fine Chemicals, Chemical Technology, Green Catalysis and Energy,Nanomaterials and Nanocatalysis, Functional Chemical Technology, and BiomassChemical Engineering. Currently, it has 48 full-time research staff members, including 32 professors, 15 associate professors, and 1 researcher with amid-level professional title; 43 hold a Ph.D. degree. Six members arerecipients of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars. Thelaboratory also hosts more than 30 doctoral candidates, over 100 master’sstudents, and more than 10 postdoctoral researchers. The academic backgroundsof the members span chemical engineering, applied chemistry, industrialcatalysis, environmental chemical engineering, new materials, pharmaceuticalengineering, biotechnology, and computational simulation, enabling thelaboratory to conduct integrated research on key scientific and technologicalchallenges in chemical science and engineering.
Each year, the laboratory undertakes more than 10 national-level researchprojects and over 60 provincial, ministerial, and industry-funded projects, with annual research funding exceeding 20 million RMB. In recent years, thelaboratory has achieved a series of fundamental and applied research outcomesin the field of green chemical product technology, including publishing morethan 100 high-quality research papers and obtaining over 30 authorized nationalinvention patents annually.
The laboratory has built two influential innovation platforms— the“Chemical Product Synthesis and Process Equipment Laboratory” and the“High-Precision Instrument Analysis Laboratory”—which play a significant role, particularly in South China, in enhancing the laboratory’s capacity forindependent innovation. The construction and operation of these platformsfollow principles of openness, fairness, and transparency, with unifiedplanning, modular development, dedicated management, and open sharing with service-orientedand fee-based access, thereby improving scientific planning and utilizationefficiency.
The laboratory has become an important research and development base fornew, green, and fine chemicals in South China, as well as a training base forhigh-level interdisciplinary talent.
