Dr. Lee is currently a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the Michigan State University.  He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics/Materials Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987.  Prior to entering academics, Dr. Lee worked two years at the Polymers Division of NIST as a physical scientist and two years at the Composite Development Center of Lockheed Corporation as a Senior Scientist, where he manage the non-metallic composite material development for DoD related programs.  In 1991, he joined the Materials Science and Mechanics Department at MSU. His major research activities include the synthesis, manufacturing/processing and characterization of nanostructured chemicals for use in polymers and light-weight metallic alloys.  He is expert in the processing of polymer composites, electronic packaging materials and the use of x-ray synchrotron for property-structural characterization. His research group is currently funded by Air Force of Office Scientific Research, Air Force Research Laboratory and National Science Foundation. Professor Lee has more than 40 published papers, and over 100 national presentations.
