Lectures by Xiaodan Hu and Rowan Clark (University of Edinburgh)
time: 2015-05-25

Lecture 1: My fantastic experience in the University of Edinburgh
Time: 15:00-15:45p.m., May 27th, 2015
Place: Room 105, Shaw Engineering Building, Wushan Campus
Speaker: Xiaodan Hu
Brief introduction to Xiaodan Hu:
Xiaodan Hu is a MSc by research student from the University of Edinburgh. She was accepted by the South China University of Technology (SCUT), majoring in Applied Chemistry. She studied in SCUT from 2010 to 2012 and then was exchanged to the University of Edinburgh by joining the 2+2 exchange program. After two years' study in the University of Edinburgh, she successfully finished her bachelor degree and received two diplomas from both SCUT and the University of Edinburgh. After graduation, she decided to continue her final year project, therefore, she applied for the Master of Science by research program. Her supervisor, Prof. Colin Pulham gave her a great opportunity to work with him and also provided funding towards her study. She is now working on phase-change material and thermochemical materials for heat storage.

Lecture 2: The Development of Next-Generation Heat Storage Materials
Time: 15:45-16:30 p.m., May 27th, 2015
Place: Room 105, Shaw Engineering Building, Wushan Campus
Speaker: Rowan Clark
Brief introduction to Rowan Clark: Her PhD is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and Sunamp Ltd, a company based near Edinburgh that designs heat storage products. She has worked on developing Phase Change Materials (PCMs) and Thermochemical Materials (TCMs) for domestic and automotive use. This includes using Powder X-ray Diffraction to study phase transitions with varying temperature, resulting in the discovery of some previously unknown crystal structures.
