LA International Interaction | Faculty and students of the Landscape Architecture Program Visit the Department of Horticulture, Chiba University, Japan.

On the morning of April 29, undergraduates from the 2020 Landscape Architecture program at the School of Architecture, South China University of Technology, visited the Department of Horticulture at Chiba University in Japan. Led by Associate Professor Wenbo Lai and Ms. Jun Xing, the students participated in a productive academic exchange at the Matsudo Campus. This visit not only deepened mutual understanding but also promoted cooperation and exchange in the field of landscape architecture between the two institutions.

Professor Xiaohuan Jiang from Chiba University's Department of Horticulture warmly welcomed the delegation from South China University of Technology. She provided an overview of the department, including its landscape gardening curriculum and historical background.

The academic exchanges primarily focused on campus life and student experiences. Through a promotional video and Ms. Jiang's presentation, students gained insights into the diverse experiences of international students at Chiba University, both inside and outside the classroom. Following the presentation, Associate Professor Lai and Ms. Xingengaged in a discussion with Professor Jiang, encouraging students to reflect on the similarities and differences in education between Chinese and Japanese universities. The atmosphere was lively as teachers and students from both sides exchanged views on the teaching of landscape architecture.

Guided by Ms. Jiang, the group toured Chiba University's campus, visiting the library, guest house, English landscape garden, Italian-style garden, and French garden, experiencing the unique charm of the campus.

Throughout the visit, students from South China University of Technology engaged in meaningful conversations with their counterparts at Chiba University. These interactions provided valuable insights into different cultural and educational approaches to landscape architecture. The students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from a different academic environment and were inspired by the innovative landscape designs showcased at Chiba University.

Through this rich academic exchange, the faculty and students of the Landscape Architecture Program at South China University of Technology not only broadened their horizons but also gained valuable knowledge and experience. We would like to express our gratitude for the support of Prof. Junhua Zhang from the Department of Horticulture at Chiba University. The visit was deemed a great success, laying the groundwork for future collaborations between the two universities.
