SCUT – TUD workshop held in the School of Architecture

On November 24-25, South China University of Technology (SCUT)- Delft University of Technology (TUD) Academic Workshop was held in our school. 16 scholars from SCUT, TUD, UC. Berkeley, Departments of municipal urban Planning office attended the conference, along with hundreds of tutors and students.

The conference was co-organized by SCUT and TUD with the theme of Sustainable Development for the Pearl River Delta--Challenges, Opportunities and Innovations, which was divided into urban design and renewal, urban sustainable development and building scale, heritage protection, urban policy and other small issues. 

Mr. Ma Xiangming, Chief Planner of Guangdong Urban and Rural Planning and Design Institute and Mr. Su Haidong, Chief Planner of Department of Land Resources and Planning, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, gave keynote speeches on the development of the Pearl River Delta from the government perspective, main problems and the specific measures taken by the government to deal with these problems.

Prof. Vincent Nadin and Prof. Gregory Bracken, Associate Prof. Michela Turrin, Marcin Dabrowski, Qu Lei and Meng Meng from the TUD and Prof. Margaret Crawford from the University of California, Berkeley also reported on their experiences in the city Planning and design, architectural design and simulation technology. It also introduced foreign experiences and coping strategies in the face of climate change, energy crisis, population aging and many other issues.

Prof. Sun Yimin, Prof. Zhou Jianyun, Prof. Wang Jing, Prof. Zhang Yufeng, Prof. Wang Chengfang, Prof. Zhao Manshi and Prof. Feng Jiang from School of Architecture SCUT attended the meeting. They explained their unique views on sustainable urban development in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) from different perspectives, which benefited teachers and students.
