On November 25, 2016, the final review of 2016 Green Building Design Competition was held at School of Architecture, Tsinghua University. The project named “Ecological Arcade”, designed by Peng tianyi, Xu zhejia, Liao yuejun, Yu tao and Deng shaobin, directed by Prof. Xiao yiqiang and Wang jing, from School of Architecture, South China University of Technology (SCUT) won the only Gold Award. The project “the revival of the bike kingdom”, by Wu siming, Lin ruokun, Yao weijun, Yao zhu, won the Bronze Award. Another one named “the former sea sails”, which is designed by Yu xiangyu, Xu tuo, Guo xiaqing, Dai shanshan and Wu sijin, got the Excellence Award.

The competition drew a lot of attentions from tutors, students, researchers from universities and institutes since June. More than 130 teams submitted their designs, showed their standards and ideas about green building design. After a strict preliminary evaluation, 62 selected works entered the final review. With another 2 round assesses, from 62 to 24, then 24 to final ones, one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, three Bronze Awards and ten Excellence Awards were selected.

The competition is based on the theme of "Qianhai (Shekou) Free Trade Zone • Green China Pavilion", focuses on design innovation. It encourages contestants to build a unique and attractive new vitality space and put forward targeted programs according to local conditions, based on the climatic conditions and site environment of the project, combination of geographical characteristics and cultural spirit at Shekou.
