Invited by former rector of Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV) Marino Folin, SCUT Professor He Jingtang had his first exhibition in Europe opened in Venice on October 10.
The event was organized by Architectural Design & Research Institute of SCUT, with IUAV and Fondazione EMG dot ART as the co-organizers. A number of architects, scholars and students from China and Italy, including Professor Paolo Ceccarelli, a renowned scholar of urban planning and historical city preservation, attended the opening ceremony.
The exhibition, “Place, Culture, Time: Design for Drastically Changing China”, are now open to the public until November 15 at the Ca' Tron campus of IUAV, presenting ten selected architectural masterpieces created by He and his team, including museum, memorial, university campus and old town redevelopment.

Understanding that China covers a vast land with distinctively different climates, topographies and cultures, He and his team have been fortunate to overcome the gaps of geography and customs, and created a great number of architectural works in varied typologies and styles.
As three simple words of infinite possibilities, place, culture and time contain and constitute the philosophical basis of He’s design. Witnessing the ever-changing challenges as result of the fast transformation in China in the past three decade, he gave his answers via practices.
Before the opening ceremony was launched in evening, a round table face talk was held to discuss the topic of “Design in a Changing World”. Scholars from SCUT, IUAV, University of Melbourne and Chinese University of Hong Kong gathered at the panel to share their views on the past, the current trends and the future of architectural design.
