The 6^th Chinese Industrial Heritage Conservation Annual Academic Conference in 2015 was held in South China University of Technology (SCUT) (Wushan campus) between November 20-23, 2015. More than 250 experts and scholars from home and abroad attended the conference, including Mr. SHAN Jixiang, the former director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the president of the Chinese Heritage Society, the president of the Palace Museum; Prof. Eusebi Casanelles, the International Industrial Heritage Conservation Council honorary lifetime president; and Prof. LIN Hsiaowei of Chung Yuan Christian University, the syndic of International Industrial Heritage Conservation Council.

On the opening ceremony, PENG Xinyi, the Executive Vice President of SCUT on behalf of SCUT, gave a warm welcome to the participants, made a brief introduction of School of Architecture, and hoped the participants can come up with good ideas for the sustainable development of industrial heritage through this conference.

In the morning of November 20, the president SHAN Jixiang, Dr. LüChuanting, the director of the Guangzhou City Planning and Research Center, HAN Qiang, the vice director of the Industrial Cultural Development Center of MIIT, made keynote speeches respectively regarding the them “the future of industrial heritage”. President SHAN pointed out the urgency and integrity of industrial heritage conservation at present time through more than 200 national industrial heritage cases. Director Lü reviewed the conservation history of Guangzhou industrial heritage, summarized its achievement, and proposed integrate industrial heritage conservation with city development. The vice-director Han compared industries in China with the counterpart in Japan, Germany and America, and pointed out the deficiency of Chinese industrial cultural and importance of its development.   

Another 48 experts and scholars presented their works covering different topic (e.g. Chinese industrial heritage features, industrial heritage and city renew, industrial heritage under international perspective) regarding the theme in the parallel sections in the following days.  

The conference is jointly organized by Industrial Architecture Heritage Academic Committee of ASC, Industrial Heritage Committee of CRAC, Industrial Heritage Department of Historic and Cultural City Committee of China, Tsinghua University and SCUT, co-hosted by SCUT.
