The 7th Conference of the Urban System and Environment(USE) Joint Research Center between SCUT and TU Delft was held successfully in SCUT

Peng Xinyi and Ena Voûte signed the agreement to initiate the second phase of JRC-USE.

 

From Nov. 9th to 10th, the 7th TU Delft-SCUT Workshop on Joint Research Center for Urban System and Environment (JRC-USE) was held in South China University of Technology (SCUT).

SCUT Executive Vice President Peng Xinyi and Ena Voûte, the dean of the College of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), signed the agreement on co-establishing the second phase of the Sino-Dutch joint research center.

 

JRC-USE is an initiative of South China University of Technology and TU Delft to establish a joint research centre concerned with creating high quality living environments through smart urban systems, infrastructure and planning.

The two parties both indicated that they will give full support to the new phase of the program, reaching a few consensuses on construction and planning.

Qiu Xueqing and Zhu Min, the two SCUT Vice Presidents had thorough discussions with the Dutch delegation on topics like planning priorities of the new phase and cooperation between the two institutions on scientific research and talents cultivation.

Representatives of faculty and students witnessed the signing ceremony. Among them are Su Cheng, Assistant to the President of SCUT, Peter Russell, the dean of the College of Architecture at TU Delft, Vincent Nadin, the director of JRC-USE, and directors of related departments and schools.

 

 

Over 80 native and overseas teaching staff and students participated in the workshop. Taking “new life in aging cities” as the main theme, they discussed topics on urban designing, heritage protection and urban policy.

Latest research results by Chinese and foreign specialists were exhibited during the workshop, expecting more cooperation and application in relative fields.

As one part of the activity, the Dutch delegation was also invited to visit the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Architecture Science and State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices at SCUT.
