Dr. Jonathan Hale of the University of Nottingham was invited by our school for academic exchange on Nov. 12th-17th.
During the one week stay, Dr. Hale presented us a series of lectures on the theme of “Construction of Ideas: The Introduction to Architectural Theory and Criticism”, which was divided into three part, “Architecture as an engineering and art”, “Architecture and Phenomenology” and “Architectural and structural doctrine and the Marx doctrine”. The lectures introduced and explained the theory, the ways of analysis and criticism of modern architecture under the philosophical background, providing the necessary theoretical context, to give the audience a deeper understanding of the concept of architecture.
Dr. Hale and professors from our school communicated and exchanged deeply in terms of the new mission of architectural research in today’s society, the graduate cultivation, the cooperation of joint workshop and so on. After the lectures, Dr. Hale visited the red building and the exhibition of Kazuo Shinohara accompanied by our school leaders.
