Objectives

This program aims to cultivate high-level specialists who are patriotic and well-developed in moral, intellectual and physical aspects, observe law and discipline and have a rigorous attitude of study and great dedication and team work spirit. Students are supposed to be well-informed with Pulping and Papermaking technology both at home and abroad and developing trends of related disciplines. Students are also expected to have good command of the theoretical basis and in-depth systematic knowledge of the subject and a relatively strong engineering and experimental skill. Students under the program should also have the creative spirit, the capability to conduct scientific researches independently, solve engineering technological problems and make creative achievements in scientific or technical fields.

Cultivation Mode

Advisory system is applied in this doctoral program. Doctoral students should draw up a working program with the instruction of their supervisors in the first month after registration. Students are supposed to participate in the medium term assessment in the third semester according to Doctor Degree Candidate Medium-Term Assessment Method of South China University of Technology (those who are enrolled in doctoral program ahead of the schedule, or who are enrolled in master-doctoral program, or who are enrolled in straight-in doctoral program are supposed to participate in the medium term assessment according to Doctor Degree Candidate Medium-Term Assessment Method of South China University of Technology before the end of the second semester when they obtain the doctorate). Students are expected to complete the required social practices before the end of the third semester (in-service doctoral students are exempt from social practices). Regular stage summaries are needed.

  

Dissertation

Doctoral students should draw up a working thesis plan, look up related literature of the research field of recent 10 years and write thesis proposals between the 8th and 15th weeks of the third semester. Before applying for the thesis defense, students are required to publish academic papers according to the requirements listed in Document 61, 2008 made by School of Graduates of SCUT. Thesis defense will be arranged according to Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology on the completion of theses.
