Brief Introduction

 

The School of Light Industry and Engineering separated at the end of 2015 from former School of Light Industry and Food Science and its history can be dated back to the 1950s.The School is dedicated to conductinghigh-quality undergraduate/graduate educations and comprehensive researches in the fields of pulp and paper engineering, resource and environmental science, printing and packaging engineering, and biomass-based science and engineering, through offering innovative curricula, industrial extensions, and excellent teaching and research facilities.

The school has two undergraduate programs including Light Chemical Engineering and Resource and Environmental Science, with a total of 317 undergraduate students. It has a Light Industry Technology and Engineering Doctoral program, Pulp and Paper Engineering and Biomass Science and Engineering Master’s programs, and a Light Industry Technology and Engineering Professional Master’s program, with a total of 499 graduate students. The school has two national level research facilities including State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering and National Engineering Research Center of papermaking & Pollution Control, as well as two provincial level research facilities including Guangdong Paper Making Technology and Equipment Public Laboratory and Guangdong Tobacco-based Plant Resources Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Laboratory.The school also has National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and other teaching facilities.

The school has 108 faculties & stuffs, including 86 full-time faculties. The faculty teams have 33 professors, 46 associate professors and 7 assistant professors, among which, some distinguished individuals or groups include one Ministry of Education Innovation Research Team, one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one foreign academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, one National Outstanding Teacher, one recipient of National Outstanding Youth Scientist Fund, one distinguished professor of the Pearl River Scholar Program, etc.

The school is actively carrying out international collaborations in teachings and researches. It has built up long-term collaboration net-works with well-known universities in USA, Canada, Finland, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and other countries for student exchanges, faculty visits and cooperative researches. Right now, the school has already signed student exchange or collaboration agreements with Abo University (Finland), KTH (Sweden), New York State University-ESF (USA), Gjovik University College (Norway), etc.
