The Electric Power Research Institute of SCUT（EPRI-SCUT） was founded in 1995. It is subordinated to the School of Electric Power of SCUT and supported by the doctor’s degree station of first-level and course of electrical engineering and power system and automation. EPRI-SCUT focuses mainly on high-voltage, direct current, new type of transmission, power system reliability and planning, power system analysis and control, power system protection, control and automation, electricity market and so forth. EPRI-SCUT employs 6 professors, 14 associate professors (including associate research fellow and senior engineer).

EPRI-SCUT has established a research system consisting of Research Base of Interconnected AC-DC Hybrid Power System, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Power Electronics as well as High-proficiency and Low-pollution Combustion Laboratory. It is located in the power laboratory building and of an area of 1500 square meters and good environment and platform.

In recent years, EPRI-SCUT has secured the key projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, sub-projects of National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and more than 30 vertical projects sponsored by Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province and more than 100 horizontal scientific projects supported by Southern Power Grid Corporation, Guangdong Guang-Dian Power Grid Group. It has made great achievements in the fields of control, stabilization and protection of the interconnected power system. In recent three years, it has gained scientific research funds of 35,000,000 RMB and pubilished 3 books and 400 papers in the core journals, of which 150 are embodied by the three core indexes. EPRI-SCUT has made great contribution to the development of Southern Power Grid Corporation and has won almost 20 scientific and technical progress rewards of Southern Power Grid Corporation.
