Through related doctoral degree courses and the doctoral dissertation, this program aims to cultivate those who have obtained a Master degree to become high-level personnel of Electronic Power and Electric Drive who have deep love for the socialist motherland and have a command of Marxist world outlook and methodology with proficiency of foreign languages and computer skills and solid and broad theoretical foundation and systemic specialized knowledge in the research field. Students are expected to have strong abilities to conduct scientific researches independently with well-development in moral, intellectual and physical aspects.

Advisory system is applied in this doctoral program. Doctoral students should draw up a working program with the instruction of their supervisors in the first two weeks after registration. Students are supposed to participate in the medium term assessment according to Doctor Degree Candidate Medium-Term Assessment Method of South China University of Technology and complete the required social practices before the end of he third semester. Regular seminars (stage summary reports) are needed.

Doctoral students should draw up a working thesis plan and write thesis proposals between the 8^th and 15^th weeks of the third semester. Defense of thesis proposals is held publicly at the school and three professors or above are supposed to attend the defense. The reading amount of literature review should reach no less than 30 pieces. Before applying for the thesis defense, students are required to publish academic papers officially according to the requirements listed inDocument #61, 2008 of SouthChinaUniversity of Technology. Thesis defense will be arranged according to Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology on the completion of theses.
