Department of Power Engineering

Power engineering of school of eletrcial power in SCUT established in 1994. It includes 2 aspects: thermal and power engineering, nuclear engineering and technology(nuclear power plant). There are some laboratories built for sub-discipline of doctorate program in electrical power system and its control, discipline of master and doctorate program in power engineering and engineering thermo physics.


Currently, power engineering has 3 advanced and specific stable researches, and gains some important results. it forms a group of high quality professionals with better development potential and advanced knowledge: 1. clean and efficient of the utilization of fossil energy; 2. the utilization of clean energy; 3. clean and efficient of the utilization of solid waste.


There are 18 tutors and staffs, 5 professors(include 4 PhD supervisor), 1 distinguished professor with "chang jiang scholars programme", 6 associate professors, 6 lecturers and 1 experimentalist working in the department of power engineering. 72% of researches is of doctor's degree, and 66.6% under age of 45. Within the lecturing team, there is 1 distinguished professor with "chang jiang scholars programme" works with lecturers' team, 1 specialist awards special allowance from State Council, and 1 teacher awarded with "southern Guangdong outstanding lecturer". Some of young lecturers are the training candicates for "thousand, hundred and ten excellent " project. Furthermore, there are 3 double-academicians.


Each year, the department of power engineering enrolls 6 dotorate students, 20 postgraduate students, 25 postgraduate students in engineering, and 135 undergraduate student. Undergraduate courses include engineering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion, boiler principle, the principle steam turbine, heat exchanger principle, thermal measurement and instrumentation, automatic adjustment of thermal processes, thermal power plants, refrigeration, and air conditioning; Postgraduate courses include: advanced Engineering Thermodynamics, Advanced Fluid Mechanics, higher heat transfer, combustion theory and numerical simulation, computer analysis of thermal processes, thermal power engineering developments, technological developments in refrigeration and air conditioning, thermal Modern testing technology.


In the recent year, the department of power engineering has undertaken many planning projects supported by state, the project supported by national natural science foundation of china and Guang Dong, tender projects from Guang Dong and HK.
