Department of Power Electronic Engineering in School of Electric Power, South China University of Technology, was established in 2008, including two specialties: Electric Machines and Electric Apparatus, Power Electronics and Power Drives, and Guangdong Green Energy Technology Laboratory, Power Electronic Research Laboratory, Electric Drives Control Laboratory and ASTEC Power Supply Laboratory.
In present, there are 3 main research directions in Department of Power Electronic Engineering with many important achievements and high-quality academic teams: 1) Nonlinear analysis and control of power electronic systems; 2) Power quality control and new energy conversion; 3) New type of motor and its drive control.
There are 19 academic staffs in Department of Power Electronic Engineering, including 10 professors (5 Doctoral Supervisor), 5 associated professors and 4 lectures. The proportion of staffs with doctoral degree is over 84% and that of under 45 years old is about 60%.
The research student enrollment of each year is about 10 doctoral students and over 30 master students. The specialized courses include Electro mechanics, Power Electronics, Automatic Control Theory, Signals and Systems, electrical apparatus, Electrical Network Analysis, Soft Switching Technology, High Frequency Switched Mode Power Supply, EMI and EMC in Power Electronic System, Modern AC Drives and so on.
