The center for theory and new technology of electrical engineering from the academy school of electrical power in SCUT built in 2008. There are experiment and training for electrical information and control engineering, and it researches aspects in theory and new technology of electrical engineering, which also was a national demonstration centre of experiment and training in 2008.

The center undertakes the training and teaching series of fundamental theory and new technology of electrical engineering for 12 academy schools in SCUT, which includes courses: power circuits, analog and digital electronic technology, electrical and electronic technology in 'non-electrical', fundamental theory of electrical engineering, circuit theory, circuit and electronic technology in computing (Chinese and English), and relevance series of experiment courses. Furthermore, it organized professionals to compile a dozen of various textbooks, and won repeatedly the provincial and school special awards in outstanding teaching. The center locates in 5 research aspects: (1) the theory and technology of EMC; (2) application of embedded technology in electrical engineering; (3) application of modern lighting technology; (4) new technology of electrical engineering and energy; (5) technology of power quality control

Recently, there are total 16 full time teaching and administrative staffs working in the center, which includes 1 professor, 6 associate professors, 4 lecturers, and 5 experimenters. It enrolls postgraduate and doctoral students every year.
