The academic school of electric power engineering

The academic school of electric power engineering of SCUT set up in 1994. It developed and expended into electric power engineering, electrical and electronic engineering in 2008. Electric power engineering includes 2 research courses: electric power system and automation, high voltage and insulation technology. In 1996, electric power system and automation has been authorized for key training course to postgraduate student, and doctoral student in 2000. Electrical engineer has been authorized for top training courses to doctoral student in 2003, and doctoral research center in 2007.

There are total 36 teaching and administrative staffs working in electric power engineering, which include 11 professors (doctoral supervisor), 19 associate professors, 14 tutors. Every year, it enrolls more than 10 doctoral students and 50 postgraduate students.

Supporting with “211” key development study and “985” program, research abilities of postgraduate students have been greatly increased in electric power engineering, where the research center built in FACTS laboratory, simulation of dynamic electric power system laboratory, digital simulation laboratory, relay protection laboratory, automation laboratory, high voltage environment of multi-functional laboratory, high voltage test hall, simulation of electric power system over-voltage laboratory, gas-discharge laboratory.

Recently, the academic school of electric power engineering is undertaking the national natural science foundation of china (NNSFC), provincial level foundation, cooperation with enterprise, joint project with Hong Kong and Macau. Its research aspects main focus on: (1) High-voltage transmission and new transmission technology; (2) electric power system reliability and planning; (3) Operation and control of power system analysis; (4) Power System Protection, Control and Automation (5) Electricity Market (6) External insulation power transmission equipment; (7) Critical Power Equipment Insulation condition monitoring and residual life assessment; (8) Over-voltage and protection technology for electric power system; (9) dielectric barrier discharge and its application; (10) Power System Electromagnetic Compatible
