SEC Grade 2014 Freshmen Attended Public Lecture on SCUT History

On Nov.11, a public lecture on SCUT history was held for Grade 2014 freshmen from School of Economics and Commerce and School of Journalism and Communication in HEMC campus. The lecture was organized by SEC and SJC, inviting Mr. Liu Shudao, former Party Secretary of SCUT as the guest speaker. Professor Wu Yechun, assistant to SCUT president and party secretary of SEC, Professor Liu Jihong from SJC, Ms. Ou Yangbin, party secretary of SJC, Mr. Yang Yiren, deputy party secretary of SEC, Mr. Huang Guangfa, deputy party secretary of SJC, along with more than 900 students and teachers attended the lecture. 

In the lecture, Mr. Liu introduced SCUT and HEMC campus history in a humorous way. He emphasized the subject characteristics and campus culture which was formed during the history of 62-year development. He hoped that every freshman on-site could understand SCUT history and cherish the excellent studying and living environment. At the end of the lecture, he expressed his wish that every student and staff in SCUT should have the ambition and confidence to upgrade SCUT into a world-class university.

In the interview section, Mr. Liu Shudao, Prof. Wu Yechun and Prof. Liu Jihong mentioned some interesting details in the development history. They emphasized that liberal arts disciplines in a technology and science university could enhance SCUT’s competitiveness. In the Q&A section, students proposed questions on establishment of student activity center and SCUT’s reputation as the cradle of entrepreneurs and scientists. SCUT history education is one of the most important parts in freshman’s education. SEC pays great attention on freshman’s history education. (Edited by Huang Xiaoting )
