On September 20, 2014 Annual Conference of Guangdong Province Statistics Science Discipline Cooperative Group was launched in School of Economics and Commerce, focusing on “The Statistics Science Research and Talents Cultivation in the Age of Big Data”. Mr.Xin Xiaowei, director of Guangdong Provincial Statistics Bureau, Mr.Feng Weidong, chief of Research Institute attached to Guangdong Provincial Statistics Bureau, along with more than 60 participants from Sun Yat-Sen University, Ji Nan University, South China Normal University took part in the conference.
Mr. Xin Xiaowei emphasized that Guangdong Provincial Statistics Bureau paid high attention to this annual conference and wished the conference go smoothly. He gave a sketch of recent situations of Guangdong Provincial Statistics Bureau and hoped that local universities in Guangzhou could nurtured more talent minds in statistics discipline.
On behalf of SEC, Professor Wang Renzeng expressed warm welcome to all participants. He briefly introduced the SEC’s development, hoping that the annual conference could promote the research of statistics discipline in Guangdong province, enhance the exchange and corporation with other institutes.
Professor Tian Qiusheng hosted the conference. Representatives from Sun Yet-Sen University, Jinan University, South China University of Technology made a report on the forum. In the second phase of the conference, participants joined in the discussion on the discipline construction and specific measures to cultivate talent minds in big data era.
