■ On October 15th of 2007, Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China established the great strategy of “speeding up the transformation of economic development and promoting the upgrade of industrial structure”, “developing modern industrial system” and “developing modern service industry and improving the proportion and level of service industry”.

■ On January 8th of 2009, the State Council promulgated and implemented the Program for Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta (2008-2020), confirming that to become world's most advanced manufacturing base and modern service industry base is one of one of the five orientations for the Pearl River Delta and bring forward the industrial system construction strategy of giving priority to the development of modern service industry. It also established the developing track of supporting the deep cooperation between the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong-Macao region and focusing on the development of financial industry, exhibition industry, logistics, information service industry, technology service industry, business service industry, outsourcing service industry, cultural and creative industries, headquarters economy and tourism to enhance development level of service industry. Moreover, it stated clearly the development goal to ensure the added value in modern service industry accounts for more than 60 percent of the added value in the service industry in 2020.
■ In February of 2009, South China University of Technology take prompt action to formulate Action Plan of SCUT to Support the Industrial Development in the Pearl River Delta Region. The important measures such as constructing large platforms, support large industries, innovating personnel training mode and expanding international perspective bring great concern to the media.

On January 16th of 2009, SCUT Institute for Modern Service Industry was formally established and Vice Governor of Guangdong Province Song Hai holds the post of Dean.
On January 21st of 2009, South China University of Technology and Guangdong (International) Hotel Management Group cooperated to build a research base on Enterprises, Universities, and Research Institutes. The agreement signing ceremony was held at south campus.
On February 23rd of 2009, Vice President Zhu Min came to our school to inspect and guide the construction of SCUT Institute for Modern Service Industry after inspected the classroom performance in the South Campus.
On February 23rd of 2009, Financial Engineering Research Center of SCUT won the first prize of "Award for Financial Innovation in Guangdong Province and received the bonus of 500,000 from the provincial government.
On March 6th of 2009, the first Membership Congress of Development Seminar in Guangdong Development Zone was held at the South Campus.
On April 8th of 2009, Assistant Inspector of the Provincial Science and Technology Department Liao Zhaolong, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Department Lin Xiaoyong came to the school to investigate and survey the modern service industry research activities.
On April 11th of 2009, the 2009 Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Sodality for Universities and Colleges was held in international academic center of our school.
On May 12th of 2009, SCUT Institute for Modern Service Industry convened the construction arrangement conference.
May 14, 2009, Deputy Director of Social Science Programming Department Feng Dacai came to our school to convene the "Modern Service Industry Research Project Declaration" guidance seminar.
On July 3rd of 2009, "Seminar on the Development of Modern Service Industry in Guangdong Province" was held in our school.
July 13, 2009, Cisco (China) President, international Vice President of Cisco Mr Lin Zhenggang was invited to give an academic report entitled "Redefinition of information" for the teachers and students.
On September 20th of 2009, the website of SCUT Institute for Modern Service Industry finished development and started to operate.
On October 28th of 2009, President of the Guangdong Provincial Standardization Research Institute Xiong Yong, vice president Li Hua came to negotiate on cooperating to set up "Standardization Research Institute of Guangdong Provincial Service Industry”.
On November 13th of 2009, the 2009 Guangdong Social Sciences Annual Academic Conference "Research on the Economic & Social Development and Modern Service Industry of Guangdong Province" seminar, which was co-hosted by SCUT Institute for Modern Service Industry, School of Economics and Commerce and Social Science Department, was held at the South Campus.
On December of 2012, Xiaoguwei Financial Forum was organized, which had great influence in China.
On November of 2014, Lingnan Economic Forum was launched. The topic of the forum was "Market-oriented Economy and All Round Deepening Reform".
