Sports Training
Program Overview:
The School of Physical Education at South China University of Technology first admitted undergraduate students to its Sports Training program in 2007. In 2020, the program was successively approved as a provincial-level and national-level first-class undergraduate program construction site. From 2022 to 2024, three courses were designated as national-level first-class undergraduate courses, and two courses were recognized as Guangdong provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses. The program boasts robust educational resources, supported by a highly qualified faculty team with strong professional competencies and a well-balanced structure. Currently comprising over 60 instructors, the faculty includes: - 1 Ministry of Education New Century Talent - 1 Outstanding Teacher of Nanyue - 1 Member of the National Higher Education Physical Education Teaching Guidance Committee - 2 doctoral advisors - Over 20 master's advisors Leveraging the advantages of a key university under the Ministry of Education and its premium educational resources, the program has established academic research exchanges and student sports competitions with prestigious institutions including Springfield College (USA), Western Michigan University (USA), and the University of Toulouse (France). Currently, the university's goal of “advancing into the global top 100 universities” provides an exceptional development opportunity for the School of Physical Education. Building upon its existing strengths, the program is seizing this opportunity to forge its own distinctive path in talent cultivation.

“Second Classroom” Activities
“Second Classroom” Activities are comprised of two parts, Humanities Quality Education and Innovative Ability Cultivation.
(1)Basic Requirements of Humanities Quality Education
Besides gaining course credits listed in one’s subject teaching curriculum, a student is required to participate in extracurricular activities of Humanities Quality Education based on one’s interest, acquiring no less than seven credits. Mental Health Education for College Students (2 credits), National Security Education (1 credit), and Career Planning for College Students (2 credits) are offered in an online format and are included in the second-classroom credits for Humanities Quality Education.
(2)Basic Requirements of Innovative Ability Cultivation
Besides gaining course credits listed in one’s subject teaching curriculum, a student is required to participate in any one of the following activities: National Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Guangdong Undergraduate Training Programs for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Student Research Program (SRP), One-hundred-steps Innovative Program, or any other extracurricular activities of Innovative Ability Cultivation that last a certain period of time (e.g. subject contests, academic lectures), acquiring no less than four credits.

Professional Master's Degree in Physical Education
Program Overview
The Master of Sports Education program was authorized in 2014. Building upon the university's existing strengths and resources, this professional degree program addresses the significant societal demand for sports education professionals. Focusing on sports pedagogy, the program cultivates high-level applied specialists equipped with solid foundational knowledge in sports theory, broad expertise in sports teaching methodologies, strong practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently undertake sports education responsibilities. After over a decade of development, the university has assembled a faculty team with a well-balanced age and professional title structure and solid research foundations, all centered around the field of physical education teaching. Additionally, the university has established high-level, diversified teaching practice bases, providing students with platforms for internships and practical training.
Educational Objectives
Guided by the talent needs of the physical education sector, we cultivate advanced applied sports professionals who possess high academic integrity, systematically master sports theory and specialized skills, and are capable of independently addressing theoretical and practical challenges in physical education instruction.
Length of Study
The standard duration of study is three years. Students unable to complete their studies on schedule due to special circumstances may extend their study period by no more than two years (including leave of absence). The cumulative period of on-campus study must not be less than two years.

Credit and Course Requirements
Total credits must not be less than 42.
1. Mandatory General Courses (13 credits): Introduction to Dialectics of Nature, Theory and Practice of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Logic, Comprehensive English, Thesis Writing and Academic Standards, and Computer Science.
2. Core Courses in the professional field (15 credits): Theory and Methods of Sports Psychology, Sports Teaching Materials and Methods, Principles of Motor Skill Learning, Introduction to Physical Education Curriculum, Fitness Assessment and Methods.
3. Elective Courses (6 credits, with a minimum of 2 credits from public electives): Sports Rehabilitation, Principles and Methods of Sports Human Science Experiments, Practical English Writing, Track and Field, Swimming, Soccer, Basketball, etc.
4. Teaching Practice Courses (8 credits)
Thesis
A thesis may take the form of a research report on a specific topic, a study on athletic training programs, an analysis of typical case studies, or an implementation plan for large-scale sporting events. It should feature a clearly defined research question, substantial content, scientific and reasonable research methods, well-defined arguments, logical clarity, precise exposition, standardized charts and graphs, and comprehensive appendices including questionnaires, interview outlines, experimental data, and video materials. The thesis must also incorporate a rich list of references that broadly covers the latest developments in the field of study.
