The 2019 World Elite University Soccer Tournament kicked off at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou on July 13. The players were from 12 world-renowned universities including Cambridge university, Oxford University, Polytechnic University of Turin, University of Southern California, University of Tubingen, University of British Columbia, Witwatersoft University, Leiden University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and host South China University of Technology.

   Prof. Gao Song, president of the SCUT, delivered the welcome speech. He said that SCUT highly values the development and popularization of soccer. SCUT was one of the first universities in China who had a soccer team staring from the 1980s and won the national championship in 1984. In recent years, the university has made great efforts in the construction of the facility and the development of the teams in professional group and Sunshine group, making numerous achievements. The university has developed a good sports tradition and strong atmosphere for soccer. Friends far and near are close even thousands of miles apart. The World  Elite University Soccer Tournament not only is a platform for soccer communication, but also builds a bridge for cultural exchanges and friendship among the youth all around the world. It plays an important role in the development of campus soccer and the culture interactions between China and the world.
