Prof. Gao was a senior visiting scholar (2011-2012) to Coventry University, UK. He has successfully initiated 2 state projects and 6 provincial projects, and had 17 academic paperspublished. He received first-classprize and third-classprize for Guangdong provincial excellent achievementsinphilosophy and social science respectively. In 2010, he was exceptionally promoted to professor.
Currently, he is executive director of Sports Industry Research Center in Institute of Modern Service Industry, South China University of Technology, vice president of the Association for Soft Science of Guangdong, and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai Sports University. In 2009, he was selected to the Program for New Century Excellent Talents sponsored by Ministry of Education. In 2012, he was selected to Program of Outstanding Talents sponsored by South China University of Technology. He wonthe honor of Outstanding Contribution Award in the 16th Asian Games held in Guangzhou in 2010.
