Teaching and Research Achievements (since 2018)
There are 61 faculty members in the school, including 20 professors, 19 associate professors. One of the professors has won the title of Young Changjiang Scholars of China. Great achievements have been made in teaching and research over the past four years. The data and figures are as follows:
A. Major and Course Development
Communication has been listed by the Minister of Education as a nationwide first-class major, meanwhile, Advertising and Journalism have been listed as provincial first-class majors. Two courses have been listed as nationwide first-class courses, four courses are provincial first-class courses, and three are university first-class courses. According to the Chinese Soft Science Ranking 2021, our Journalism was evaluated as A and ranked 30th in the field of Journalism and Communication in Mainland China; meanwhile, Communication was evaluated as B+ and ranked 10th in Mainland China.

C. Teaching and Research Achievements and Team Building
The school has won a first prize and a second prize of Guangdong Teaching Achievement Award. A new teaching team has been listed as a provincial teaching team. Other teaching teams such as “Chinese Traditional Culture”, Model Teaching Team of Media Culture and Literacy” and Aesthetic Education have received financial support from Guangdong Province or the university.
The school successfully established the Local Journalism History Research Committee of the China Journalism History Society. It was also approved to establish two other provincial-level research institutes, such as the Guangdong Health Risk Monitoring and Information Communication Center and the Audio-visual Innovation and Research Center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In the past five years, it has undertaken 15 National Social Science Fund projects (including 2 major projects and 2 key projects), and 78 provincial and ministerial-level projects. The School has been rewarded 2 Arts, Humanities and Social Science prizes by the Ministry of Education, and 4 Provincial Social Science Achievement Awards. Over 200 papers have been published, including more than 200 CSSCI, 19 SSCI, 5 SCI, among which 4 of Q1 papers. Besides, 57 textbooks and monographs are published in the past 5 years.
In the 2021 ranking of the Best Discipline in China released by Soft Science, the School was ranked 12th, among top 10%. In the ranking of category A journals in 2018, the School ranked 8th in Mainland China; In the Reprinted Information Center for Social Science of RUC of 2018 and 2019, the School was ranked 10th and 8th among all the schools that have majors of journalism or communication in Mainland China.
D. Teaching awards
The MOOC College Aesthetic Education won the first prize in the most Beautiful MOOC - Wonderful 100 Selection and Exhibition of MOOCs of Chinese University.
Awarded 1 third prize of national journalism and communication professional degree excellent teaching case, 1 third prize of the fifth Guangdong University (Undergraduate) Youth Teaching Competition, and 1 teaching excellence award of Teacher Teaching Honor System at the university level.
In the program of essays and micro-video solicitation about Teacher’s professional morality in Guangdong Province, staff from the school won 1 first prize and 2 third prizes.
E. Student Research and Competition Awards
Since 2018, students from the school have won more than 40 national awards in competitions such as Internet +, Challenge Cup, National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students, China Daily News Award, Data News Competition, and more than 100 provincial awards. The students have led over more than 20 national innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for college students.
