报告摘要:For a rarefied gas, a uniform shear flow is characterized at a macroscopic level as a state where the horizontal velocity is linear along its normal direction while the density and temperature remain spatially uniform. Due to the shearing motion that induces the viscous heat, the total energy and hence temperature monotonically increase in time. It is more fundamental to understand the change of energy under the effect of shear forces at the kinetic level where the gas motion is governed by the nonlinear Boltzmann equation. In this context, the state is defined as the one that is spatially homogeneous when the velocities of particles are referred to a Lagrangian frame moving with the given macro shearing velocity. In the talk I will present recent results on uniform shear flow via the Boltzmann equation. 


报告人介绍:Renjun Duan is currently a professor of Department of Mathematics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He obtained the PhD degree in mathematics at City University of Hong Kong in 2008. After graduation he had the postdoc research for two years in RICAM, Austrian Academy of Sciences. Since 2010 he has been affiliated with CUHK. He received the Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award in 2007 and the Hong Kong Mathematical Society Outstanding Young Scholars Award in 2020. His research interest is analysis of PDEs with focus on the Boltzmann equation in kinetic theory as well as related fluid dynamic equations. He is an editorial board member of several journals including Nonlinear Analysis, DCDS-B, KRM and CMAA.
