报告摘要：
The problem of optimizing a non-smooth function over the Stiefel manifold arises in many machine learning and signal processing applications. This naturally calls for the design of practically efficient iterative methods with good convergence guarantees for solving this class of problems. In this talk, we will survey some recent progress in this direction and discuss some open questions for further research.
报告人简介：
Professor So currently serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Journal of Global Optimization, Optimization Methods and Software, and SIAM Journal on Optimization. He has also served on the editorial board of Mathematics of Operations Research. He received the 2015 IEEE Signal Processing Society Signal Processing Magazine Best Paper Award, the 2014 IEEE Communications Society Asia-Pacific Outstanding Paper Award, the 2010 Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Optimization Society Optimization Prize for Young Researchers, and the 2010 CUHK Young Researcher Award. He also received the 2008 Exemplary Teaching Award and the 2011, 2013, 2015 Dean's Exemplary Teaching Award from the Faculty of Engineering at CUHK, and the 2013 Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award from CUHK.
