报告摘要:
Free boundary/moving interface problems are challenging boththeoretically and numerically. In this general talk, I will introducesome application examples and corresponding differential equationsmodels. The applications include Stefan problems of unstable crystalgrowth, drop spreading, and multi-phase flows. Then I will give abrief review of numerical methods for solving those challengingproblems, particularly Cartesian grid methods such as Peskin'sImmersed Boundary (IB) method, the Immersed Interface Method (IIM),Augmented IIM, and Immersed finite element method (IFEM) developed bymyself.
Another major component in solving freeboundary/moving interface problems is how to evolve the interface. Inour approach, both the front tracking and the level set methods areused. The level set method is simple and robust and can handletopological changes for any dimensions. I am going to discuss someissues about how to combine the level set method with IIM to achievehigh order accuracy.
