School of Materials Science andEngineering (SMSE) at South China University of Technology (SCUT) evolved from the Materials Science discipline of South China Institute of Technology (the predecessor of SCUT), with its history tracing back to the 1950s.

Since its establishment, the school has been dedicated to cultivating top-tier talents in scientific research and engineering with a strong sense of social responsibility, as well as interdisciplinary innovative professionals with a global perspective.

Aiming to become a world-class academic institution, SMSE has always stood at the forefront of materials science research and innovation, focusing on five key areas: organic optoelectronic materials,inorganic optoelectronic and energy materials, biomedical materials, advanced composite materials, and corrosion and protection materials. The school not only encourages fundamental research but also proactively promotes applied research to meet the technological and industrial needs of the nation,establishing an integrated system that combines basic research, technological breakthroughs, and commercialization.

  We welcome outstanding scholars specializing in materials science, chemistry, biology, physics, and interdisciplinary frontier fields to join our team. Key disciplinary areas include: Polymer Materials,Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials, Metallic Materials, Electronic Materials,Optoelectronic Materials, and Biomaterials.

 

Position: Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas)

Qualifications and Expectations:

(1) Comply with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic ofChina, possess good scientific ethics, and conscientiously embody the spirit of scientists in the new era.

(2) Born on or after January 1st, 1986.

(3) Hold a doctoral degree.

(4) The main research focus shall cover natural sciences, engineering, and related fields.

(5) Since obtaining a doctoral degree until the application deadline in2026, applicants are generally required to hold a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D organization for at least 36 consecutive months. Exceptions may be made fort hose who obtained their doctoral degree overseas and demonstrate particularly outstanding achievements, allowing for a relaxation of the work   experience requirement.

(6) Have acquired research or technical achievements recognized by peers,and possess the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field.

(7) Applicants who have not yet returned to work in China full-time or whor eturned to work in China on or after January 1, 2025, must resign from their overseas positions or have no employment overseas upon receiving the funding notification. After receiving the funding notification, the recipient must resign from overseas work and return to China to work full-time for at least 3 years.

(3) Housing benefits: on-campus rental apartment and a housing subsidy will be provided.

(4) Health care: high-quality on-campus healthcare can be provided for faculties and their families.

(5) Talent green card: Guangdong Provincial and Guangzhou Municipal Government provide the talent green cards that offer access to specialized services catering to talents, covering housing, healthcare,children’s education, and spouse employment.

(6) Other benefits: according to relevant Chinese policies for non-Chinese citizens, the university will pay the employee component of Chinese social insurance, and help with children’s enrollment in the university’s kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools.
