School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) at South China University of Technology (SCUT) evolved fromthe Materials Science discipline of South China Institute of Technology (the predecessor of SCUT), with its historytracing back to the 1950s.
Since its establishment, the school has been dedicated to cultivating top-tier talents in scientific research andengineering with a strong sense of social responsibility, as well as interdisciplinary innovative professionals with aglobal perspective.
Today, SMSE boasts a well-structured talent cultivation ecosystem with 3,482 full-time students, including 1,499 undergraduates, 1,172 master’s students, and 582 doctoral students. Meanwhile, we have established a full-chain talent cultivation disciplinary layout spanning from undergraduate to postdoctoral studies, encompassing 4 undergraduate majors (Polymer Materials and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Functional Materials, and Biomaterials), 3 first-level discipline doctoral programs (Materials Science and Engineering <National Key Discipline>, Biomedical Engineering <Guangdong Provincial Key Discipline>, and Chemistry), and 2 postdoctoral research stations (Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering).
