In September 2021, in order to meet the needs of building a 'maritime power' and the South China Sea development strategy, the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology Guangzhou International Campus was officially established. The college has introduced an international high-end talent team led by academicians and with national level talents as the backbone, to carry out high-end talent training and scientific research work focusing on the development of ocean resources and new energy.
The development goal of the college is to face the forefront of world technology, the main battlefield of the economy, and major national needs, closely integrate with the strategic needs of a maritime power, and rely on the development of the ocean economy in the Greater Bay Area to cultivate leading talents in the development of ocean resources and new energy that combine traditional ocean engineering technology with new era artificial intelligence technology, and build a world-class intelligent ocean equipment and technology talent training and scientific research base.

Intelligent ocean equipment is an important direction for the current and future development of ocean technology, widely used in fields such as ocean resource development, new energy development and operation, ocean environment monitoring, waterway safety management, maritime rescue, and ocean rights protection. The county has the characteristics of intelligence, autonomy, multifunctionality, unmanned, precision, and internationalization.
The Intelligent Ocean Equipment major is a new undergraduate engineering major aimed at the future development and application of ocean technology. It is also a multidisciplinary and integrated major that combines ocean engineering, intelligent engineering, information engineering, mechanical automation engineering, and other fields. This major brings together a strong faculty team with rich engineering experience and academic background from both domestic and international sources, emphasizing the training of students' international perspectives, practical abilities, innovation skills, and comprehensive coordination abilities. After graduation, students can continue to study in related fields, and also can work in large energy enterprises, new high-end manufacturing enterprises, the Internet, artificial intelligence industries, and large international companies. The quality of education and employment is high, and the prospect is broad.

The establishment of the 'Intelligent Ocean Equipment' major is one of the important layouts of the school in response to the national 'Maritime Power' strategy, and therefore receives key support from the school's policies.
Professional backbone teachers have rich overseas research or teaching experience and have achieved international advanced achievements in related fields, which can effectively lead the construction of the intelligent ocean equipment profession and achieve the internationalization goals of research and teaching.
The professional training program has been completed and passed the review at all levels. The preparation work for enrollment and teaching resources is being carried out intensively to ensure the smooth implementation of the training program.
The forefront of professional research focuses on the intelligent technology of large-scale ocean equipment, including digital twins of ocean platforms, underwater intelligent detection, ocean data structures, ocean equipment signal processing, equipment automatic control, etc.

This major offers courses such as Ocean Structure and Equipment Design, Fundamentals of Ocean Equipment Electrical and Electronic Technology, Principles of Automatic Control and Modern Control Theory, and Fundamentals of Modern Signal Processing.
The college has established a mentorship system for undergraduate students, guiding them to conduct innovative research, offering shared courses between undergraduate and graduate programs, achieving seamless training between undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, and supporting and encouraging students to participate in short-term or long-term international teaching, research, and other exchange projects.
