About the University
South China University of Technology (SCUT) was founded in 1952 and has since grown to become one of the premier research universities in China. SCUT is one of the 36 national Double First Class universities directly supervised by the Ministry of Education (MoE). It is located in the bustling metropolis of Guangzhou, right in the middle of the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area of South China, After more than seven decades of growth, SCUT is now a fully-fledged research university, excelling in the fields of engineering, sciences, medicine and business.
Th University consists of three campuses: the Wushan Campus, the University Town Campus, and the Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC). The Guangzhou International Campus (GZIC) is the first and only Chinese campus to be jointly developed by the MoE, the local provincial and municipal governments and the university itself. The campus spans an area of 110 hectares. Its mission is to promote economic, social and intellectual development in the surrounding area and beyond through innovation-driven research and education.
To complement SCUT's existing strengths, GZIC places an emphasis on interdisciplinary research in areas including marine engineering smart manufacturing, biological medicine, advanced materials, microelectronics, data science, AI and other related emerging engineering fields.
About the School
The School of Marine Science and Engineering, SCUT, located at GZIC, was established in September 2021. Building on the earlier foundation of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, SCUT, established in 1958, our school is focus on high quality graduates and research innovations in marine science and engineering to contribute to the goal of GZIC, driving innovation and serving the country through education and research activities. The teaching and research areas of the School include, but not limited to, Offshore Infrastructure Engineering, Smart Marine System Engineering Technologies, Eco-coastal System Engineering and Coastal Disaster Prevention and Remedy Technologies. The focus of our teaching programs is to educate engineering graduates with visions of sustainable developments and skills in modern marine technologies such as the internet of things, big data, artificial intelligence and smart marine systems. The School encourages fundamental, applied research and technology transfers, especially in multi-disciplinary areas. The School is endeavored to establish state of the art teaching and research facilities to achieve the goal of promoting marine scientific and cooperative innovation in the Greater Bay Area. The School plans to establish a high quality and complete disciplines scientific marine engineering technical research system, contributing to the construction of the Greater Bay Area and South China Sea, as well as marine renewable resource requirement in China.
