He said: “We are born in a prosperous era against the background of the country's vigorous construction of  ‘maritime power’,  I encourage you to work hard to become first-class talents in marine engineering, and contribute to the development of the national marine industry.”

Dean Cheng pointed out that talent cultivation should be based on science and research, emphasizing the combination of ideas and practice, and cultivating comprehensive talents with independent work ability, independent scientific research ability, and independent thinking ability.

He put forward three requirements for new students: firstly, 'diligence is more important than leisure', whether in learning or in research; Secondly, scientific research is not about doing it alone. We should pay attention to team work, communicate and discuss more with our mentors and seniors; The third is to enjoy campus life, allocate time reasonably, and strengthen physical exercise in addition to studying and researching.
