Title:Modelling Aspects in Ocean Renewable Energies

Reporter:Associate Prof.Yingyi Liu  Kyushu University

Time:31 October 2024 (Thursday) 16:30~17:30

Venue:G2-101,Guangzhou International Campus, South China University of Technology

Abstract:

The role of marine renewable energy in achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality cannot be ignored. In the process of using floating wind power, wave and tidal energy, due to the complexity of its floating structure, it is inevitable to involve multidisciplinary background knowledge such as hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and anchor chain dynamics. The establishment of appropriate theoretical and numerical models is essential to understand the physical phenomena themselves and to carry out efficient coupled modeling and analysis. This lecture will briefly introduce some of the relevant basic research and experience gained by the presenters, with a view to providing inspiration for colleagues in the industry.

Resume:

Dr. Yingyi Liu is an assistant professor at the Institute of Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University, a faculty member at the Polytechnic Institute, and a part-time faculty member at an energy education institution. His main research interests are offshore wind/wave energy utilization, including marine engineering hydrodynamics, wind turbine aerodynamics, and overall dynamic response of floating wind turbines. He has published more than 50 SCI papers in authoritative journals in the field of engineering and two chapters of English academic monographs. In the past 5 years, he has presided over 8 scientific research projects, including 2 projects of the Natural Science Foundation of Japan (JSPS). He is a technical executive member of the International Society of Offshore Polar Engineers (ISOPE) and an editorial board member of 3 international journals. He is also the author of HAMS, an open source hydrodynamic code for marine engineering.
