South China University of Technology (SCUT) boasts a century-long legacy, tracing its roots to the First Guangdong Provincial Category A Industrial School founded in 1918. In 1952, it evolved into the South China Institute of Technology through the merger of engineering departments from major universities and polytechnic institutes across five provinces. Granted the status of a national key university in 1960, SCUT further solidified its academic standing by gaining approval to confer doctoral and master’s degrees in 1981, and was renamed South China University of Technology in 1988. It has since been included in China’s prestigious "Project 211" (1995), "Project 985" (2001), and "Double World-Class" initiative (2017), emerging as a leading multidisciplinary university.
Today, SCUT comprises three campuses—Wushan, University Town, and Guangzhou International Campus—and has educated over 620,000 graduates. Notably, its Polymer Science, and Food Science and Technology disciplines claimed global No.1 in the 2023 U.S. News rankings. With partnerships spanning 200+ institutions and students from 100+ countries, SCUT is committed to nurturing talent and advancing toward world-class status.
