On July 13, South China University of Technology (SCUT) officially launched its 3rd Global Summer School of Emerging Engineering at its Guangzhou International Campus. Running from July 12 to 25, the program brings together nearly 140 international students and 14 international faculty members from 20 partner universities worldwide, including the University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University, and Université Paris Cité. Xu Yong, Vice President of SCUT, together with representatives of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and partner foundations, attended the opening ceremony.
In his remarks, Xu Yong noted that the Guangzhou International Campus serves as a key platform for advancing the University’s two-way internationalization strategy and fostering open academic and cultural exchange. He expressed the hope that students from China and around the world would learn from each other, strengthen mutual understanding, and contribute to deeper international collaboration in education, research, and talent development. The opening ceremony featured traditional lion dance and Lingnan folk music performances, followed by speeches from faculty and student representatives. Subsequent ice-breaking activities and campus tours marked the beginning of the international students and faculty’s exchange and learning journey.
The curriculum is organized around five emerging engineering fields, including artificial intelligence, soft materials, and biomedicine. It comprises three core components: academic courses jointly taught by Chinese and international faculty, study tours exploring Chinese and Lingnan culture, and visits to China’s Top 500 enterprises. Integrating academic learning, cultural immersion, and industry engagement, the Summer School has become one of SCUT’s flagship programs for advancing the quality and substance of its internationalization efforts.
Supported by CEP and YES international exchange programs, this year’s Summer School has attracted twice as many participants as its inaugural edition. 95% of participants come from internationally renowned universities, while half of the partner institutions are ranked among the world’s top 100.
