On June 18, SCUT held the 2026 Commencement Ceremony, where more than 13,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students celebrated their graduation. SCUT leaders, academicians from within and outside the university, alumni representatives, faculty members, students, and parents attended the ceremony, which was livestreamed across multiple platforms, attracting over 1.7 million online viewers.

Tang Hongwu,Chancellor of SCUT, delivered a commencement address titled “Building Bridges, Reaching the Future”, encouraging students to cultivate their core ability to connect different sectors, to remain grounded in their homeland while maintaining a global perspective, and to build bridges between China and the world, technology and humanities, and ideals and reality, thereby channel their power of youth intoactions and responsibility. Using light as a metaphor, President Yang Zhongmin delivered his address titled “Rising with Momentum, Moving Toward the Light”, urging graduates to stay true to their course, steadily build their strength, stay compassionate and kind-hearted, and bravely embark on the new journey of life.

Drawing on his entrepreneurial experience, alumnus representative Liu Zhihong encouraged graduates to build a solid foundation, embrace innovation, and stay true to their original aspirations. Representatives of undergraduate and postgraduate graduates shared reflections on their studies and expressed their commitment to building China into a sci-tech powerhouse. During the ceremony, graduates presented flowers to their teachers in gratitude; the university awarded the “Duxing Award” to students pursuing grassroots employment and presented a ceremonial flag to graduate representatives; and SCUT leaders and presiding professors then conferred degrees upon all graduates and performed the tassel-turning ceremony.

This graduation season saw the release of the SCUT Youth Anthems collection, co-created by the university’s faculty, students, and alumni. Song and dance performances, together with a lion dance, added to the festive atmosphere. All graduates took a solemn oath to uphold the spirit of the university motto, align their personal development with China’s national rejuvenation, and demonstrate the responsibility of China’s youth in the new era through practical action.
